2011 Fantasy Baseball Rookie Report Week 14: Presley Sighting & Bryce Harper Gets Promoted
Alex Presley (see credits below)
SP- BLAKE BEAVAN (SEATTLE) – The 6'7" pitcher got called up to replace injured Erik Bedard last Sunday and did not disappoint. Beavan went seven innings for the win, striking out four and giving up only three hits against the Padres. Blake is known as a control pitcher and can help you in the WHIP category if he sticks with the team. Remain cautious with him for now until we see how the Mariners situation pans out.
SP- VANCE WORLEY (PHILADELPHIA) – Vance has been amazing since his call up. Worley is 4-1 with a 2.20 E.R.A. and a 1.22 WHIP. The California native also has wins against the Red Sox, Mets, Marlins and Nationals. The Phils optioned him down to AAA last night after his win over Florida to keep him on a regular schedule, but he is expected to be back to start the opener agains the Mets right after the all-star break. Worley is worth an add if you need pitching help. Just keep an eye on the injuries to Oswalt and Blanton.
SP- RUBBY DE LA ROSA (LOS ANGELES DODGERS) – De La Rosa ran his record to 3-4 last night with a loss to the Mets. He currently sports a 4.31 E.R.A. and a 1.39 WHIP. The scouts love his stuff especially his 95+ MPH fastball. He has averaged a a strike out per inning in the minor leagues and is just under that now in his brief major league career. The growing pains will continue as he adjusts to major league hitters, so patience is a virtue here.
SP- IVAN NOVA (NEW YORK YANKEES) – Nova who had won four straight decisions was promptly demoted to AAA on July 3rd to make room for Phil Hughes. Nova had a 8-4 record and 4.12 E.R.A. in 16 starts. The Yankees did not want to go to a six man roatation or put Nova in the bullpen so they felt this was the best option to keep him fresh and on a routine. My advice is to hold on to him if you have the roster space and watch the Hughes situation closely.
OF- ALEX PRESLEY (PITTSBURGH) – Very very impressive start for the Pirate phenom who has replaced the injured Jose Tabata in the Pirates outfield. Presley is currently hitting .364 in 33 AB with a home run and 6 RBI. He also can steal some bases which makes him an interesting fantasy prospect. After watching Sam Fuld go crazy for a month for Tampa Bay I am not quite sure what to make of Presley. He also has Jose Tabata in the rear view mirror soon to return from the disabled list. I recommend to stay away for now until we see how the situation pans out.
OF- RENE TOSONI (MINNESOTA) – Tosoni has been splitting time in the Twin’s outfield since Delmon Young went down to injury. In 54 AB he has a .167 batting average with two home runs and seven RBI.
Rene hit a three run homer off Zack Greinke on Sunday to help the Twins cause. I do not see anything in his minor league career to make me think he will flourish at the major league level so as for now stay away from him.
BRYCE HARPER WATCH – The inevitable has finally happened. Yesterday the Nationals promoted Harper to their AA Harrisburg team where he promptly had two hits and a run scored. In his three month stint at Class A Hagerstown Bryce hit .318 with 14 HR and 19 SB. The Nationals still have no intentions to promote him to the bigs this year though.
