2012 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Bryce Harper Hits First Career Home Run, LaHair On Fire

Picture

Apparently somebody turned the clock back to 2001 because Miguel Batista was relevant tonight on the fantasy scene.  The Dominican righty tossed 7.0 innings of no run ball and struck out five along the way.  Don't get any crazy ideas about going out and adding him, this outing should be much like a shooting star.

Jon Lester threw a gem too for the BoSox although that one wasn't quite as unexpected.  Lester threw a complete game, struck out six and gave up just one earned run while picking up the Win.

Bryce Harper finally hit his first big league home run in the Nats win over the Padres.  It took 14 games to do so and Harper hasn't gotten off to a great start, with just a .231 average to date.

Mark Teixeira also went yard Monday night.  Teix went 2-of-4 from the plate, hit his fifth home run of the season and knocked in two runs.

The nightly Bryan LaHair home run came through as usual, his 9th of the season in a 6-4 Cubs win over the Cards.

Speaking of power sources coming out of no where, Josh Reddick mashed his 9th home run of the season as well.  Reddick is now hitting .289 on the season, but it remains to be seen if the regression police will need to be called in on this one.

Although the official news hasn't broke yet it looks as if Ray's starter Jeff Niemann broke his leg after getting hit in the right foot.  This was quite the bad break for Niemann as he was off to one of the better starts of his career, with a 3.48 ERA and 1.16 WHIP to date.

Placido Polance homered for the 2,000th hit of his career in a Phillies win over the Astros.  Did anybody see that one coming at all?  I know Polanco has been around forever, but this one took me by surprise.

Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers squeaked out a win over the D-Backs with the news hitting the deck that Matt Kemp will be placed on the 15 day DL.  Kershaw hurled 7.0 innings of no run, six strikeout ball.  Kanley Jansen picked up his 4th save of the year in a clean inning.  Don't expect Javy Guerra to get that job back this year.

One night after giving up a miserable six runs over 0.1 innings Addison Reed picked up his third save of the season.  Reed notched the handshake but it wasn't the cleanest inning.  Reed put two men on base before getting himself out of the inning.  The White Sox bullpen will most likely be a tumultuous one all season.

Nelson Cruz hit a homer for the first time in a ridiculous 91 at bats on Monday night.  Cruz's bat has woken up of late, as he led the Rangers' in hitting last week, with a .500 average in 28 plate appearances.

The handshakes of the night were made by; Kanley Jansen (4), Joel Hanrahan (7), Chris Perez (12), Frank Francisco (9), Sean Marshall (6), Addison Reed (3), Jonathan Broxton (8), Sean Burnett (1), Rafael Dolis (4), Santiago Casilla (8), Rafael Soriano (2).

The pitching match ups I’m looking forward to move tomorrow; Max Scherzer (DET) Vs. Jake Peavy (CHW) and Anthony Bass (SD) Vs. Strasburg (WSH).
