2012 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Bud Norris Dominant in May, Stubbs Blasts Two

It was a great night for a couple of struggling Reds in their 4-1 win over the Braves.  Drew Stubbs homered twice, as he went 2-for-3 from the plate and drew a walk.  Meanwhile, starter Mike Leake tossed 8.0 strong innings and hit one out of the park himself for the first time in his major league career.

In St. Louis Tyler Greene went 3-for-4 from the plate, with a HR and two RBI.  Both the Cards and Padres received solid games for their starters in a game that saw the Cards win 4-3.  Jaime Garcia went 7.0 innings, gave up two runs and hung up seven batters.  On the opposite end Clayton Richard went 7.1 innings, also gave up just two earned runs but run up just three.

Bud Norris continues to dominate the world in May to the tune of a 0.35 ERA on the month.  Norris pitched the Astros to an 8-4 win over the Cubs, he tossed 7.0 shutout innings and runs up eight.

Gio Gonzalez also kept alive his streak of dominance over the Phillies in a 2-1 win for the Nats last night.  Gio hurled 6.0 shutout innings and punched out 9 to push his record to 6-1.  This pushes his ERA on the year just below 2, standing at 1.98.   One would think Gio has now officially realized his full potential and thus you can expect similar success going forward.

The Dodgers won their fifth straight game, this one 6-1 over the D-Backs.  The win was backed by another solid outing by Chris Capuano, 6.0 innings, one earned run and five strikeouts.  On the offensive side the Dodgers sent three out of the park, they were from: James Loney (2), Andre Ethier (9) and Matt Treanor (1).

Madison Bumgarner pitched another gem last night but came away with nothing to show for it in a 14 inning barn burner.  The Giants would eventually win the game 4-3 on a home run from Hector Sanchez.  Bumgarner had rung up 10 over 7.2 innings and given up just one earned run.  The game also saw home runs from Ryan Braun (12) and Buster Posey (5).

Coming into his matchup against the Mariners, Yu Darvish had a 2.10 ERA over the past 30 days.  But again the Mariners knocked Darvish around to the tune of four earned runs over 4.0 innings.  The worst part was the four hits and six free passes he handed out.  Going forward it will be interesting to see if AL teams start to hit Darvish better the second time around.

Giancarlo Stanton actually knocked out lights on the video scoreboard at the new Marlins park last night.  The blast, number 9 on the year came off of the ancient Jamie Moyer.

The handshakes of the night were wrapped up by: Heath Bell (6), Joel Hanrahan (10), Brian Fuentes (4), Sean Burnett (2), Sean Marshall (8), Alfredo Aceves (10).

Pitching match ups I’m looking forward to tonight: Jordan Zimmerman (WSH) Vs. Roy Halladay (PHI), Brandon Beachy (ATL) Vs. Mat Latos (CIN), and Matt Cain (SF) Vs. Shaun Marcum (MIL).
