The bad news for Josh Hamilton: In his final at bat on Sunday, he broke the bat that was used during the historic four-homer performance last week. The bat was on the next flight to Cooperstown, New York, baseball’s Hall of Fame.

Josh Hamilton became the 15h player in Major League history to record four homers in a single game. The other 14 were: Bobby Lowe, Ed Delahanty, Lou Gehrig, Chuck Klein, Pat Seerey, Gil Hodges, Joe Adcock, Rocky Colavito, Willie Mays, Mike Schmidt, Bob Horner, Mark Whiten, Mike Cameron and Shawn Green.

Down on the farm: Jurickson Profar of the Frisco RoughRiders in the Double-A Texas League singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 23 games, and his on-base streak to 32 games.

I was finally able to see Billy Hamilton, the fastest man in baseball, in-person on Saturday night and he did not disappoint. The Reds’ Advanced-A short stop went 3-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and added two stolen bases to give him 35 on the season. Carlos Beltran took over the National League home run lead, with a solo shot, his 13th of the season.

Tommy Hanson earned his fourth win of the season in a five inning, nine strikeout performance in St. Louis.

Heading into Sunday, Gio Gonzalez, Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Yu Darvish, Anibal Sanchez and Tim Lincecum each sported a strikeout rate per nine greater than ten. Of those starters, Max Scherzer and Tim Lincecum have experienced some tough luck on  balls in play as well as stranding more than the league norm. Both seem to be decent buy-low candidates.

Michael Cuddyer (3) and Rajai Davis (3) each swiped two bases on Mother’s Day.

Joey Votto blasted three moon-shots on Sunday, including a walk-off grand slam as the Reds defeated the Nationals 9-6. The Reds’ first basemen knocked in six runs, scored four and extended his hitting streak to eight games on Sunday.

Allen Craig continued to swing the hot bat with a 3-for-5 effort including his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot. I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure Mike Naclerio just mentioned that Craig wasn’t owned in enough leagues here. You be the judge.

Jonathan Papelbon (10), Matt Capps (7), Fernando Rodney (10) and Jose Valverde (7) each earned handshakes last evening.

Lance Lynn took his first loss of the season yesterday, surrendering three earned runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven. WIth a .202 average on balls in play, and a 93.8% strand rate heading into Sunday, we may start to see the regression monster attacking Lynn soon. Could be a good time to test the trade market on the Cardinals’ starter.

Another candidate to be chased down by the regression monster is Ted Lilly. He surrendered four earned on five hits and three walks, while only striking out only one on Sunday. Lilly owns the league’s luckiest average on balls in play (.196) after Sunday’s effort and his 2.11 ERA looks to be in serious danger when you consider his 4.66 xFIP.
