2012 Fantasy Baseball, Week 12 Rookie Report: Not so Grimm in Texas?

SP- JUSTIN GRIMM (TEXAS)- The Rangers have a gem in the making here with Grimm. Justin made his major league debut Sunday as he earned a win and struck out seven batters. Texas has stated that Grimm is one of their top prospects as he has posted a 1.87 E.R.A. in 77 innings at the AA level. Just how the Rangers decide to use him will be the question here as free agent signee Roy Oswalt gets ready in his minor tune up. Worth a flier if you are struggling for pitching help although once Oswalt gets the call he may be optioned back to the minors for a little more seasoning.

SP/RP- LUCAS HARRELL (HOUSTON)- Harrell has struggled as of late surrendering 22 runs in his last 23 2/3 innings of work. For the season he has a 6-5 record , 5.06 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP not exactly lights out numbers. Lucas minor league career numbers are really not that flattering as well, so for now I see him useful only in N.L. leagues and in head -to -head leagues when the match-ups are favorable.

SP/RP- JOSE QUINTANA (CHICAGO WHITESOX)- Quintana is quitely having a solid season after his call up just short of a month ago for injured John Danks. He owns a 2-1 record with a 1.52 E.R.A. amd a 1.01WHIP. The 23 year old lefty looks like he may stick with the club as Danks recovers and Philip Humber continues to struggle. After seeing Quintana pitch I like his stuff and recommend picking him up if you have the roster space.

C- MARTIN MALDONADO (MILWAUKEE)- Maldonado is currently tied for the rookie lead in home runs with four in the month of June. In just 53 AB's he has 12 RBI's to go with a .226 BA. Martin has not had much of a heralded past and it looks like he has just run into a hot streak for the time being. He is maybe worth a flier in N.L. leagues only at this time.

OF-KIRK NIEUWENHUIS (NY METS)- Captain Kirk is still flying high for the Mets as he continues to be the spark plug for the over achieving New York club. Kirk owns a .290 BA with six HR's and 24 RBI. He also has stolen four bases and has been excellent on defense. The Mets would like to see him cut down on his strike outs but otherwise he has been a very pleasant surprise. It looks like he likes the road much better than Citi Field as he has a .320+ BA away from the Met's home field.
