2012 Fantasy Football, Week 11 Target Practice: Justin Blackmon Has Career Day

Justin Blackmon

Welcome to week 11's “Target Practice,” where we investigate the outliers in the past week’s targets and what they could potentially mean going forward.

He was targeted how many times?

Andre Johnson (WR | Houston Texans | 19 targets) Yes, 19 targets yielding 14 catches for 273 yards and a score. While you shouldn’t expect another outing like this, Johnson owners should be excited to know that the Texans’ have the third easiest schedule the rest of the way according to football outsiders.

Dez Bryant (WR | Dallas Cowboys | 15 targets) Dez had a career day on Sunday, catching 12 passes on 15 targets for 145 yards and a touchdown against the Joe Haden-less Browns. This marks the fourth game in which Romo looked for Bryant on double-digit occasions and the third game he went over 100 yards receiving. Bryant is a low-end WR1 or high-end WR2 the rest of the way.

Justin Blackmon (WR | Jacksonville Jaguars | 14 targets) The rookie hauled in seven passes on 14 targets for 234 yards and a score in week 11. In the previous ten weeks, Blackmon failed to receive more than ten targets, catch more than six passes for more than 67 yards. It’s safe to say that Chad Henne behind center was the best thing to happen to Blackmon since arriving in Jacksonville. Henne is slated to start again in week 12, giving Blackmon owners something to be excited about.

Davone Bess (WR | Miami Dolphins | 10 targets) Ryan Tannehill continues to give the speedster, Davone Bess, the looks. This week, Bess earned ten targets resulting in six receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown — his first of the season. Those in PPR leagues need keep, or get, Bess in their lineup. More targets and touchdowns should be on the way.

Dwayne Allen (TE | Indianapolis Colts | 11 targets) With Andrew Luck’s best friend Coby Fleener missing in action once again in week 11, Allen reeled in six passes for 69 yards on a season-high 11 targets. Seems like the “chemistry” between these two have really blossomed in Fleener’s absence, so expect more of the same going forward.

Wait, did I read that right? That’s all?

Santana Moss (WR | Washington Redskins | one target) To say this was a really awkward game would be more than an understatement. Robert Griffin III looked Moss’ way just once in Sunday’s contest, but Moss beat out two defenders for the 61 yard reception resulting in the receiver hitting pay dirt for the sixth time this season. Although Moss is only averaging 3.8 targets per game, he has scored six times, so he is a high-risk, high-reward play the rest of the way.

Jeremy Maclin (WR | Philadelphia Eagles | two targets) Maclin was a non-factor in the passing game against the Redskins on Sunday, who were surrendering the third-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Nick Foles had a rough day at the office and only looked Maclin's way twice. Maclin owners — and probably only Maclin owners — are praying for Michael Vick’s return in week 12.

Dwayne Bowe (WR | Kansas City Chiefs | two targets) Bowe is a victim for the terrible excuse of a quarterback situation in Kansas City. The Chief failed to catch a pass on just two targets in Sunday’s effort against the Bengals. Most trade deadlines have passed by now, but if by chance yours hasn’t, I’d be shopping Bowe for fifty cents on the dollar.

Dustin Keller (TE | New York Jets | two targets) Another pass catcher with tons of potential being limited by the quarterback debacle for the Jets. Keller caught both of the passes thrown his way in week 11 for just 16 yards. There is no evidence of consistency, so I’d be avoiding Keller unless you’re in a bind.
