2012 Fantasy Football, Week 16 Tight End Rankings Explained: Tony Gonzalez On Top

Tony Gonzalez

If you are reading this than congratulations are in order since you must be playing in your league’s championship. Hopefully my advice throughout the year has helped you get to this position. Let’s go get some championships now!

1) TONY GONZALEZ (@DET)- Gonzo scored once again last week giving him eight touchdowns with 87 catches and 880 yards on the season. If the Falcons do not let down and come to play Saturday night in Detroit we should see plenty of opportunities for Tony to add to his stellar season.

2) JIMMY GRAHAM (@DAL)- The Saints will be motivated to slow down the Cowboys playoff hopes Sunday in big D. Graham should be able to take advantage of a depleted Cowboys linebacking crew. He has now gone four consecutive games without a touchdown which means he is due to break out.

3) JASON WITTEN (NO)- Witten has 97 catches for 973 yards on the season as he enters this week 16 tilt with the Saints. He leads all TE’s in both those categories. He is healthy and should be in for another solid game for the Cowboys.

4) AARON HERNANDEZ (@JAX)- Hernandez has been solid of late scoring three touchdowns in his last two games against stellar defenses in Houston and San Francisco. It is possible that the Patriots may get Rob Gronkowski back this week which may cut into Aaron/s numbers. Regardless Hernandez is a must start and a top five option.

5) DENNIS PITTA (NYG)- Hopefully you heeded my advice last week and took a flyer on Pitta as he went off for two scores and 125 yards. What makes him an even more intriguing play this week is the fact that number one wide receiver Torrey Smith may be out. Dennis ranks in the top five in most scoring leagues in scoring at the position.

6) GREG OLSEN (OAK)- Olsen enters play this week 16 against Oakland with four touchdowns in his last six games and three touchdowns in his last three games against the AFC. Olsen has totaled 15 catches for 205 yards and three touchdowns in three games against the AFC West this season.

7) HEATH MILLER (CIN)- Miller caught six passes for 52 yards and a touchdown in his last meeting against the Bengals. Heath caught his eighth touchdown of the year last week against the Cowboys maing him a viable top 10 TE in this match up.

8) OWEN DANIELS (MIN)- Daniels has been slowed of late since he suffered a back injury five weeks ago. He did receive seven targets last week against the Colts so atleast the Texans are still trying to get him the ball.

9) JERMICHAEL FINLEY (TEN)- Finley has re-emerged somewhat in the Packer offense but he is still not receiving many red zone looks from Aaron Rodgers This week he gets the Titans who are ranked 30th in defending the TE position.

10) KYLE RUDOLPH (@HOU)- It is tough for me to recommend anyone in the Vikings pass offense although Rudolph does have eight touchdowns on the season. Houston ranks 28th in the league against opposing teams TE position.

11) BRENT CELEK (WAS)- It is all about the matchups as I say each week and this one is a good one for Celek who takes on the league’s second worst defense against the TE. If you have made it this far lets hope you have a better alternative to Brent this week.

12) JERMAINE GRESHAM (@PIT)- Not the best matchup for Jermaine but he is healthy and is a constant option in the Bengals offense.

13) ROB GRONKOWSKI (Check health status before game, if starting move him up in top 5)

14) BRANDON MYERS
15) TONY SCHEFFLER
16) ANTONIO GATES
17) MARTELLUS BENNETT
18) DALLAS CLARK
19) DWAYNE ALLEN
20) SCOTT CHANDLER
