2012 Fantasy Football, Week 5 Gold Mine: Brian Hartline Breaking Records & Hearts
Brian Hartline
Injuries continue to mess with the fantasy realm, as Jake Locker and others got bit in week four. Hopefully some big names going down didn’t completely crush you in the past week, but if they did, you should at least have the chance to take advantage of an NFL star’s misfortune by scooping up someone with solid value that could be stepping up soon.
Here are my five hot waiver wire adds currently owned in less than 50 percent of leagues heading into week five:
Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Tennessee Titans (Available in 98% leagues)
Hasselbeck isn’t the most explosive option, but it looks like he could be starting a couple games in the near future with Jake Locker (shoulder) possibly sidelined. He has some solid weapons and he put up two touchdowns in week four, so you know he can help you out in a jam. He faces a beatable Vikings pass defense this week (although they’re getting better), so he has a chance to help you out if you’re in trouble at quarterback.
Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots (93%)
This just in: Brandon Bolden has value and in a week he might not. It’s the nature of the beast when you’re dealing with a Bill Belichick fantasy option, but I’m starting to believe Bolden at least has Flex value. The Patriots seem intent on running the ball successfully this year, and Bolden has been a solid fantasy option two weeks in a row now. He’ll run hot and cold as he shares the rock with Stevan Ridley and Danny Woodhead, but he’s not without value in an offense that is starting to hum. You’ll just have to pick and choose which matchups to deploy him in.
Brian Hartline, WR, Miami Dolphins (78%)
Hartline is leading the entire league in receiving yardage. No, that’s not a typo. I know a giant chunk of it came in week three (253 yards, in fact), but he now owns two games with 100+ receiving yards and nine or more catches (12 in week 3). He’ll bring some inconsistency here and there, but it’s beyond clear right now that he’s Miami’s true #1 target and that Ryan Tannehill more than confides in him. He’s a WR3 going forward at the very worst.
James Jones, WR, Green Bay Packers (69%)
Greg Jennings (groin) is sidelined once again, and this time he could miss several games. That means Jones should step into the starting lineup, and now you’ll have more confidence in him than ever after his strong week four outing (56 yards and two touchdowns). Green Bay faces the suspect Colts in week five, so you have to love his potential right now.
Scott Chandler, TE, Buffalo Bills (72%)
I think it’s time we all realized that Chandler is more than just a red-zone threat. While that’s clearly his bread and butter, his two touchdowns in week four were fantastic plays, and I can’t see him not being heavily involved going forward for the Bills. He already has four touchdowns on the season after scoring six in all of 2011. He’s a low TE1 and looks to be heating up.

That does it for this week’s must-have waiver wire adds. Stay on top of injuries and protect your roster by getting some stash guys when you can afford to. Good luck heading into week five!
