2012 Fantasy Football, Week 7 Rookie Report: Brandon Weeden, A Bye Week Starter?

With a season-high six teams on a bye this week, it might be time to look deep to fill the holes in your line-up.

If that is the case, a few rookies are starting to establish themselves as legitimate fantasy options for the week.

None of these guys are standard 10-team guys right now except as fill-ins for an injured player or one on a bye.

Here’s a look at some first-year guys to target:

Brandon Weeden | QB | Cleveland: After a forgettable debut, the Browns quarterback has posted decent fantasy numbers in recent weeks. He has thrown for at least 291 yards in three of his last five games and has two touchdowns in back-to-back games. He could match both those totals again against Indianapolis.

Kendall Wright | WR | Tennessee: I hate that he has to share time with Nate Washington and Kenny Britt and doesn’t have a great quarterback in Matt Hasselbeck, but he has become fantasy relevant despite those facts. He has at least six catches and 66 yards in each of his last two games and has two touchdowns on the season. He also has a nice match-up against Buffalo.

Justin Blackmon | WR | Jacksonville: Yes, he’s been a disappointment so far, but he is getting better and I am thinking he should have his best game coming off a bye week. He was targeted at least eight times in each of his past two games and had 48 and 40 yards in those games. I think those numbers double and he gets his first touchdown against Oakland this week.

Chris Givens | WR | Rams: The first pick of the fourth round out of Wake Forest has seen his fantasy stock rise since Danny Amendola’s injury. He has been targeted 12 times in the last two weeks and shown big-play ability with 34 yards per catch on four receptions during that time.

David Wilson | RB | Giants: He was in Tom Coughlin’s doghouse after an opening-night fumble and fell to third on the depth chart when Andre Brown emerged, but now Wilson is back to the value he had when he was drafted in many leagues. He ran seven times for 35 yards last week and Ahmad Bradshaw is again limited by injury, so this could be a breakout week for Wilson.
