2013 Fantasy Football, Eliminator Pools: Week 7

If by chance you’re still alive in your 2013 Eliminator (Suicide) Pools, here are some selections to ponder for week seven in the NFL:

SAFE PLAY: Chargers- One of the bigger surprises to this point in 2013 is the leader of the Chargers. Philip Rivers is third in passing yards (with 1847) and tied for second in TDs (with 14). Maybe even more surprising, Rivers only has 5 turnovers (all INTs) when he averaged 27.5 the last two seasons. Rivers and the Chargers are making the dreaded west coast, traveling east to play an early game after a Monday night game but that trip is to Jacksonville to face the 0-6 Jags.

GET THEM OUT OF THE WAY PLAY: Dolphins- There is always an extra confidence boost to pick a team coming off a bye and getting to stay at home. Ryan Tannehill and Lamar Miller gets to face a Bills D that has given up 271 yards per game through the air and 124.2 yards per game on the ground. For the season, the Bills are 0-2 on the road and have been outscored by 20 points in those two road losses. They also might be resorting to starting Matt Flynn or a injured Thad Lewis at quarterback.

MY PLAY: Packers- This pick for Week Seven has been on the radar for weeks. But you know how they say ‘’the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry?’’ Well that is exactly what happened with foreseeing a Packers pick this week. The Packers are dealing with injuries to Randall Cobb, Clay Matthews, James Jones, and Nick Perry just to name a few. Sticking with this pick comes down to trusting Aaron Rodgers (1646 yards, 10 TDs) to be the MVP caliber player that he is, the Packers home record of 9-1 home record since the beginning of 2011 and for Brandon Weeden to add to his 5 INTs (4 games).

Other Notes: Vegas has the Falcons as a touchdown favorite vs the Bucs this Sunday. Normally a seven point favorite should get high consideration as an eliminator pick. However, Julio Jones is out for the season while Roddy White and Steven Jackson are iffy. The Falcons had a bye week to find a new identity but avoiding Atlanta for the time being is the smart play… The Pats have beat the Jets five straight times including a 13-10 win in Week Two. During that time frame the Pats outscored the Jets 86-35 in New York… The Colts couldn’t catch a cold in San Diego Monday. Possibly they were looking ahead to this Sunday night’s matchup against the Broncos. Could the fact that Peyton Manning is coming home for the first time since leaving Indy be enough to rattle him like a 2010 playoff game vs the Jets? This might be a great game to watch but as far as an eliminator pick goes, stay away.

Safe Play: 4-2

Out of the way: 3-3

My Play: 4-2
