2014 Fantasy Football Daily Fix: Week 8 Quarterbacks
With a lot of teams on bye this week, and a game being played overseas this weekend, the QB slate is thin. Have no fear my friends there are plenty of exploitable match ups this week and I will help guide you through it.
Tier 1 – Elite
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers, $9,000 – Rodgers is top dog this week, taking on the New Orleans Saints in Nawlins. There isn’t much to say here, because the Saints secondary has done all the talking. The Saints give up the most points to QB’s, and Rodgers is a top three points producer. After this game we should start calling Aaron “Dr. Rodgers”, because he is going to slice the New Orleans secondary like a surgeon. Rodgers should be in play in both cash and tournaments; you will want some exposure to that game.
Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints, $8,100 – Although I suggested Rodgers, I still think Brees should deserve consideration in both cash games and tournaments. Brees is $900 cheaper than Rodgers, and should have similar statistics to Rodgers. With Sam Shields doubtful for Sunday night, it gives Brees a significant bump in value, not to mention playing at home.
Other QB’s to consider – Russell Wilson ($8,400)
Tier 2 – Value
Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys, $7,400 – Romo is an interesting play this week. The Cowboys are really rolling right now, and they get the lowly Washington Redskins this week at home on Monday Night. Romo isn’t the easiest QB to roster, since he has been known to make mistakes, but with this matchup I would even be comfortable using him in my cash game lineups.
Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals, $6,500/Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles, $6,300 – These QB’s are grouped together since I value them the same. Similar to the Saints/Packers game, I expect the Cardinals and Eagles game to be a shootout. Both teams can’t stop the air attack, which should mean a ton of passing yards and touchdowns for both QB’s. Palmer/Foles should both be really popular cash game play since they create major cap relief that will allow you to roster better positional players.
Other QB’s to consider – Tom Brady ($7,200), Cam Newton ($6,600)
Tier 3 – Contrarian
Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs, $6,000 – There aren’t many cheaper options that Smith this week, and I doubt he is on a lot of peoples radar. Smith isn’t the most exciting QB – let’s face it he can make you fall asleep, but his matchup is quite interesting. The Rams will head to Arrowhead this weekend, which is as tough of a venue as it gets, and their defense gives up the most points to QB. Smith has a high floor and doesn’t make many mistakes (anymore), but I wouldn’t go as far as making him my cash game play.
Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings, $5,200 – This is strictly a GPP play. Yes the Vikings offense is terrible, but the Bucs’ defense is worse. If you really got big kahunas go with Bridgewater, at the very least he should return value on his price tag.
Good luck to everyone this weekend, and I hope you all have a profitable weekend.
