2015 Daily Fantasy Football Strategy: Week 6 Tight Ends

It is on to Week 6 of the NFL and Daily Fantasy Football at DraftKings. I’m back to provide recommendations for Tight Ends for your weekly lineup. This week is the perfect week to take a dip into the Daily Fantasy pool as you can win $1,200,000! Daily Fantasy can help you with lineup decision for your season-long league and give you another team to root on during the weekend.

This is a great week to check out DraftKings and pick up a new way to play fantasy football.

DraftKings Tight End Recommendations

If you’ve never played on DraftKings before, you can get a deposit bonus by signing up. And there are different options to pick from at DraftKings for any skill level.

Four teams are on bye again this week so we lose a bit of depth from the TE field. And is Gary Barnidge now a thing? And our “play a TE against the Raiders” finally failed last week.

Finally, a gentle reminder on the scoring for Tight Ends – this is a PPR site so remember that when selecting players. The full for scoring for Tight Ends is at the end of this column.

Tight Ends can also be used in the flex position at DraftKings. However, with the entire world of RBs and WRs at your disposal Rob Gronkowski is probably the only TE you’d consider as a flex option. TEs still make a viable option at the flex spot as long as the pricing continues to be soft.

Let’s take a look at a couple of options at each price point. For those who are new to the column, I’ll generally look at a couple of options in each pricing tier broken out based on the socioeconomic status of 1970s sitcom families. And I’ll always cover Rob Gronkowski.

I’ll mention Football Outsiders a lot over the season – the passes per game and yards per game stats I use are from Football Outsiders. Here is the link to Football Outsiders’ 2013 stats. FO stats for 2014 are here and I like to use the defense versus types of receivers to fill out my rosters. And we now have 2015 stats located here – now with receiver types!

Teams on bye: Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, we lose Jason Witten, but not much else. Well, except our favorite defense against TEs!

Over/Under

We’ve added a new feature this year highlighting the top totals (over/under) in Vegas for the week.

The top over/under totals for Week 6 (according to Vegas Insider consensus):

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts (55 points)
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints (51.5 points)
San Diego Chargers at Green Bay Packers (50.5 points)
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (49 points)

And nothing else higher than 44 points on the docket this week.

The Gronk Tier

Rob Gronkowski | Patriots | $7,600 – I know that everyone is recommending Gronk every single week, but his point total has dropped every single week down to a season-low 10.7 last week. So, is he worth the big money this week? I’ll say no with the only thing to hang our hat on is the narrative stating the Pats want to crush the Colts for their role in “Defalte-Gate.” Much like his matchup last week, it’s not great and not awful. And the Colts haven’t really faced a lot of great TEs so it’s tough to tell how much of the Colts’ ranking is based on their opponents. I’ll pass this week (and probably regret it when Tom Brady throws 10 TDs this week).

The Jeffersons

Greg Olsen | Panthers | $5,500 – Olsen comes in off a bye and faces a Seahawks defense that was shredded by Tyler Eifert last week. He’s going to lead the Panthers in targets again this week so he’ll get the volume necessary to put up big numbers.

Jimmy Graham | Seahawks | $5,400 – Nope. No thanks. Beyond his “work” this year, he faces the toughest defense on TEs in the DraftKings world.

Travis Kelce | $5,000 | Chiefs – So, what do the Chiefs do without Jamaal Charles? Do they focus even more in getting the ball to Kelce and Jeremy Maclin. Can Charcandrick West fill the void Charles left? Will Alex Smith try to do too much? I’m going to wait a week to find out, but if you believe he becomes the focal point of the offense he’s a reasonable option.

All in the Family

Tyler Eifert | Bengals | $4,900 – Eifert eclipsed his catch total for Weeks 2 through 4 in last week’s matchup with Seattle. And he gets another excellent matchup with the Bills. We can see Eifert being the number one TE this week.

Martellus Bennett | Bears | $4,800 – The Bears WR corps was damaged last week, but Bennett had a quiet game nonetheless. However, his matchup this week is fantastic. He gets a Lions team in a disarray, DeAndre Levy is hurt again and the Bears WRs are still a question mark.

Antonio Gates | Chargers | $4,600 – Well, that’s one way to make a season debut. Gates’ matchup this week is tougher and I think he’ll be overowned this week based on the prime time performance last week. And Ladarius Green is still here. He’s certainly the go-to receiver near the goal line.

Gard Barnidge | Browns | $4,400 – Well, I think we have to take Barnidge seriously especially in an offense that throws the ball about 100 times a game. His lowest point output in the last three weeks is 19.5 against the Chargers. He’s scored a TD in each of the last three weeks. This is a much tougher matchup against a Broncos defense that has yet to give up a TD to TE.

Charles Clay | Bills | $4,300 – Clay turned in a dud last week and he’s missed some practice time with a calf injury. With the potential for Tyrod Taylor to miss the game, I can’t back Clay with E.J. Manuel under center.

Jordan Reed | Washington | $4,400 – Will likely still be out with a concussion.

Julius Thomas | Jaguars | $4,000 – Thomas was surprisingly part of the lineup last week and looks to now be fully healthy. He’ll likely get more and more integrated into the offense and if T.J. Yeldon misses the game this week eh could end up being the red zone option.

Good Times

There are ten options between $3,000 and $3,900 and only one looks interesting.

Jordan Cameron | Dolphins | $3,000 – So, what will the Dolphins’ offense look like off the bye with a new coach in charge? We imagine that Lamar Miller will see the ball a lot more, but we also think that Cameron gets more involved. And this is probably the healthiest we’ll see Cameron this year.

Sanford and Son

As we strive to give you more and more each week, we’ve added a new tier. The Sanford & Son tier. If you want to go dumpster diving hoping to find that gem, let Sanford & Son be your guide. You hear that Elizabeth? I’m coming to join ya!

Zach Ertz/Brent Celek | Eagles | $2,900/$2,500– One of these guys will be worth the price. It’s the guy who will score the TD. We’ll go with Celek because his brother scored against the Giants last week. And because he’s scored TDs in the last two weeks. And he’s $400 cheaper than Ertz.

Larry Donnell | Giants | $2,800– Donnell is quite the bargain this week especially if Odell Beckham, Jr and Reuben Randle are less than 100%. The Eagles present a good matchup in a game that should be a shootout.

Derek Carrier | Washington | $2,500– Carrier picked up a TD last week and I can see his role increasing as he gets more comfortable with the role and Kirk Cousins. The matchup is tough, but it’s not like the Jets’ defense has a weak spot.

Good luck in Week 6!
