2015 Fantasy Football, Week 9 Deep Sleepers: Jameis Winston, Will Tye
Everybody knows to start Adrian Peterson, Aaron Rodgers and Julio Jones. In this article we will be covering deep sleepers. Guys that a lot of people may be able to find on their waiver wire. If you’re desperate for an emergency play or a cheap DFS option, this is where you find those guys. Just remember all these guys are longshots. Don’t bench your stars for them!
QB Jameis Winston, TB
The first-overall pick has been predictably up and down this season. He’s thrown for 1,648 yards this season and only once has failed to throw for at least 200 yards this season. Winston also has a TD-to-INT ratio of 10-to7 and he’s added two touchdowns on the ground. This week he faces off with the Giants. The same Giants that last week allowed Drew Brees to complete 78 percent of his passes last week. More importantly he threw for 505 yards and seven touchdowns. Granted, Winston is not Brees. With that said, Brees had just eight TDs on the season heading into last week’s game. Winston is a very solid option this week for a waiver wire pickup.
RB Kendall Gaskins, SF
Gaskins is the only back left in the 49ers backfield. Carlos Hyde is dealing with a stress fracture in his left foot. He is extremely unlikely to play this week. There is even a chance his season is over. Reggie Bush has been placed on season-ending injured reserve with a torn MCL he suffered last Sunday. Mike Davis broke his hand and underwent surgery this week. He is expected to be out for an extended period of time. Jarryd Haynes was demoted to the practice squad after clearing waivers this week. Gaskins is the only running back on the active roster that was on the team last week. He should get touches by default. He’s the only back on the team that has any knowledge of the offense. It may not last long, but he will be the RB1 this week.
RB Alfred Blue, HOU
The Texans backfield is pretty much a toss-up with Arian Foster on injured reserve. It would not be a shock if either Jonathan Grimes or Chris Polk emerge as the leader of this lackluster committee. Nonetheless, all we have to go on right now is the fact that Blue led all running backs in carries last week 14-to-8 and also led all RBs with five receptions, Grimes was next with just two. As of now, it looks like Blue is the top back in Houston. So if you’re going to add one of their backs, it should be him. None of them are safe bets. Then again, they wouldn’t be deep sleepers if they were. He is off this week, which is why you should try to add him now before people are looking to start him. He’ll be high priority next week.
WR Marquess Wilson, CHI
The Bears’ WR corps is really banged up. Eddie Royal is out this week and for the foreseeable future. Also, defenses are going to be keying in on star wideout Alshon Jeffery. That should leave Wilson with an abundance of opportunities to make an impact. Wilson will get the start and should see plenty of targets. The matchup isn’t great against the Chargers, but their defense is really beat up. Of all the players in this article, Wilson is probably the safest bet. The Bears have no choice but to utilize him.
TE Will Tye, NYG
The Giants’ starting tight end Larry Donnell has been ruled out for Week 9 with a neck injury. That leaves Tye as their only option. Eli Manning loves utilizing his TEs. Obviously he’s not a great option, but shouldn’t be disregarded either. He’s an interesting option as a desperation play in two-TE leagues and could be a sneaky good, cheap DFS option. Look for him to get looks when Manning is under pressure and in the red zone.
