The pitching dominance continues across the league, this time in the hand of Cliff Lee who shutout the Marlins and held them to just 2 hits. And no you are not imagining that pitchers are getting better. Whatever reason you want to attribute it to (end of the steroid era, no more juiced balls), the league ERA has dropped for the 6th year in a row. In fact, since 2006, the league ERA has plummeted from 4.52 to this year's 3.86. Compared to the 2000 season (4.76), teams are scoring almost a full run less per game. 

In a game featuring two top-notch pitchers, one would expect a relatively low scoring game, but in the Brewers vs the Cubs it was quite the opposite. Zack Greinke got lit up for 8 runs (6 earned), barely making it into the 6th inning but at least managed to punch out 10 batters. On the other end, Matt Garza surrendered 5 runs over 6 innings and was the winner by default. Streaky Carlos Pena hit his 10th homer of the year and Ryan Braun smashed his 15th. 

Adam Lind continues to punish anyone in his path. He hit a home run for the third day in a row, giving him 14 on the year. Even with missing 3 weeks of play in May, Lind’s stat reads .341 / 14 HR / 42 RBI / 30 R. In June alone he already has 7 homers.

Speedster Rajai Davis who finished with 50 swipes last year has gone ice cold. He does have 18 on the year, but hasn’t stolen a base in 10 games and has only one attempt in that span. It could have to do with the fact that he is 3 for his last 38 with 1 walk.

The Yankees swept the Rangers with a 3-2 win in 12 innings. The Yanks started newly acquired Brain Gordon, who held Texas to 2 runs over 5.1 innings.

Max Scherzer pitched just enough innings to get the win and improved to 9-2 on the year. The Indians had tied for first in the AL Central the day before but the loss to the Tigers puts them 1 game back again.

Nick Blackburn shutdown the White Sox, going 8 strong and giving up zero runs. The Twins won 1-0 off a Michael Cuddyer home run (10).

After 3 straight losses, Gio Gonzalez finally bounced back with the win against the Royals. He struckout 10, giving him 82 on the year.

The home run derby was held a bit early in the Capital City. Seven home runs accounted for 11 of the runs, as the Nationals took out the Cards 7-4. Albert Pujols (16), Matt Holiday (7) and Yadier Molina (4) homered for St. Louis, while Jayson Werth (10), Roger Bernadina (2), Laynce Nix (10), and Danny Espinosa (12) homered for the Nats.

Can you imagine if Adrian Gonzalez had been playing anywhere else than San Diego his whole career? AGonz hit his 14th homer of the year, leads the league in RBI’s with 61 and the AL with a .347 batting average. Boston beat the Rays 4-2 with Clay Buchholz improving to 6-3 and David Price taking the loss (7-6).

Atlanta beat the Mets in extra innings 9-8 off a DJ Carrasco balk to Jason Heyward. In his second game back, Heyward rejuvenated the Braves and went 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Chipper Jones went 3-4 with a dinger and 5 RBI. Jose Reyes hit his 12th triple of the year (3 are tied with 6 for 2nd in the league), stole his 23rd bag and went 3-6. He leads the league with a .348 average – 1 point above Adrian Gonzalez.

Justin Upton (12) slammed a game winning home run in the 10th to give Arizona the win over the Giants. Ian Kennedy received the no-decision, but pitched an absolute gem (8IP, 4H, 0ER, 10K). Ryan Vogelsong gave up two runs over six innings and has not given up more than two runs in his last eight outings.
