The Daily Fix: MLB Takes Over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Berkman, Weaver & More

It’s always fun to take a quick look at the MLB stats early in the season to see all the outliers, but I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that Lance Berkman was tied for second in the Majors with 6 home runs. Who knew a corpse could pull a fastball?

I know everyone has already had their fun with Mike Leake, but he will be pitching on Thursday against Arizona. As a show of support, perhaps Winona Ryder can throw out the first pitch. Also hurt in the background when this news broke was Pete Rose, telling Leake that if he wanted to commit a crime he should do something manly and bet on baseball.

Brandon Wood was designated for assignment joining the illustrious list of can't miss prospects like Brien Taylor and Todd Van Poppel, who were more suited to be a greeter at Walmart than being a baseball player. On the opposite end of the spectrum, it is nice to see Alex Gordon finally living up to all the hype.

Los Angeles Dodger fans should be nervous, the last time the MLB took over a team the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals.

Brian Fuentes is still only owned in 61% of ESPN leagues. I know when healthy Andrew Bailey is the guy, but he's already shown he is susceptible to injury, so why not ride Fuentes. The A's are going to be in a lot of close ballgames because they have good starting pitching and a mediocre lineup, which means Fuentes will continue to get the ball with save opportunities.

Need a catcher, why not try Nick Hundley, now I know the Padres have absolutely nobody in that lineup to protect him, but it never really hurt Adrian Gonzalez. Hundley is only owned in 48% of ESPN leagues and is currently has the impressive batting line of .350, 3, 9. With Joe Mauer and Victor Martinez hurt, Hundley could make a solid addition.

Jered Weaver continued his absolute dominance over the Rangers pitching a complete game. Weaver gave up one run on six hits and struck out eight. He now is 5-0 with a 1.23 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and holding batters to just a .150 average. He also leads the league in strikeouts with 39.

The Mets continued their losing ways and own the worst record in baseball at 5-13.
