2013-14 Fantasy Hockey Daily Fix: Monday, January 6th
After a day of complete unpredictability Sunday — in the form of the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning (thanks to an injury to Ben Bishop) — we approach Monday with a slight bit of trepidation.
That said, there are some juicy offensive matchups on the ledger tonight.
Let’s get started!

Daily Fix Thoughts and Musings:
The Columbus Blue Jackets sting the Rangers 4-2: The referees in this game both call a high rate of penalties. I feel confident with a vast number of players from this game, starting with Ryan McDonagh of the Rangers. Other players from New York that I am interested in include Benoit Pouliot ($3,700), Mats Zuccarello ($5,200). It’s tough to predict exactly which Blue Jackets will explode tonight, but Henrik Lundqvist is playing horribly as of late. I am confident rolling out Ryan Johansen, Artem Anisimov, Cam Atkinson, Nathan Horton and Brandon Dubinsky.
The Colorado Avalanche burn out the Flames 4-0: The Avs always seem to take care of business against bad teams at home, and they also have the benefit of having Tim Peel referee their game. He calls 44% of calls against home teams, so he really favors them heavily. I love Erik Johnson, and Matt Duchene tonight. Jean Sebastien Giguere is starting in net for the Avalanche, and I’m rolling him out in every single league.
The New York Islanders shoot the Stars 4-3: The refs for this game are notorious for favoring the home team heavily. Mike Hasenfratz and Frederik L’Cuyer both are near the top of the league for fewest calls against the home team, with L’Cuyer being the lowest at 43.7%. Expect lots of scoring in this one, as the refs are likely to set the tone. Feel confident rolling with John Tavares, Thomas Vanek, Kyle Okposo, Erik Cole, Tyler Seguin, and Jamie Benn.
The Montreal Canadiens clip the Panthers 3-1: The Habs are absolutely due for a win at this point for Carey Price, who has been snake-bitten by poor defense in front of him. The Panthers match-up well against many teams because of their speed. The Canadians forte is speed, and they do it better than the Panthers do. Expect Max Pacioretty and P.K. Subban to have excellent games. Both are must-starts.
Daily Fix Official Lineup:
I was asked on twitter today how I approach days with small NHL slates. It’s a good question. I typically like to join 3-player winner take all matches on smaller days because it has the upside of the bigger contests (in terms of profit on your money) without the downside of the smaller payout offerings that Draft Kings puts out on the smaller NHL game days.
Here is my lineup for such a contest tonight.
C- Brandon Dubinsky
LW- Benoit Pouliot
RW- Nathan Horton
D- P.K. Subban
D- Erik Johnson
G- J.S. Giguere
U- Ryan McDonagh
U- Andre Benoit
U- Max Pacioretty
