Weather

Last night too many devilish children performed rain dances and now just about every game today has some weather concerns. Keep your eye out on games in: Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Texas and Kansas City.

Positional Breakdown

Starting Pitchers

So you think you can pick a pitcher, or dance, or both. Don’t dance around the options today, David Price and Stephen Strasburg definitely stand head and shoulders above the rest. If you’re looking for strikeouts, these two guys are the arms you want to have. The Rays’ are hoping that Price can increase his trade value with a dominant start today against the Pirates and I fully expect he will do that. He’s gone four straight starts with double digit strikeouts and each of his last three he’s taken his arm through eight innings. The Bucs have been swinging it better as they entered “The Trop” but Price seems to be just dandy at home and shouldn’t have any issues picking and choosing his way through a bunch of holes in this lineup; grab him today.

Strasburg is also pretty easy. The guy just makes it really easy on daily fantasy sports players by striking out the whole entire world when he takes the mound. His K/9 isn’t quite “Strasburg-esque,” but he’s been efficient and has pitched well recently. The Brewers are a team that we like to try and target with good right-handed pitching, and the other way around with southpaws. If you buy the home/road splits, Price will be your guy over Stras, but they’re really both exceptional choices.

Catcher

First I must mention Wellington Castillo is back for my Cubbies! Yipee! Although that has no bearing on DFS, he was begging for a mention and I felt this was an appropriate time to do so after a solid game last night for ‘ole Beef Wellington. I’ll be looking elsewhere today though, namely to Wilin Rosario out in Colorado. Oh Wilin, how I love you so against left-handed pitching. He’ll be facing the young left-hander Marco Gonzales and takes his .679 slugging against southpaws into play at Coors Field tonight. He’s my favorite catcher and will probably be widely owned amongst your peers.

First Baseman

So you’re saying that Matt Adams is still in Coors Field? Sorry for going back to the well here with park factor guys, but come on. Adams has really turned it around of late and has his average up to .326 and his homerun total to eight, partly in thanks to his multi-homer performance on Monday night. He doesn’t really need a park boost to up his chances of hitting a homer, he’s a big dude, but Coors Field makes everyone better offensively, so take advantage. His price seriously still doesn’t ever seem to catch up, mainly due to the lack of power production across the entire season; use him today against a young righty.

Second Baseman

I’m going to go ahead and offer up to you guys, Jason Kipnis. Now Kipnis played in a long game last night, recorded three hits in seven at-bats and almost had an inside the park homerun. None of that really translates to today, but, he’s one of the best upside second baseman in the league. He can swipe bags, draw walks and hit homeruns, check, check, and check. He makes for a pretty safe cash game play, despite his slow start, and obviously has the potential to ruin your day in a GPP if you don’t have him in your lineup. He faces the young right-hander Chase Anderson today and “I gotta a feeling, that tonight’s gonna be a good night, that tonight’s gonna be a good, good, night.”

Shortstop

Troy Tulowitzki.

Third Baseman

David Wright has a double in four straight games, are you impressed? Probably not. Are you impressed by his .397 average against left-handed pitchers? Probably a little bit. Are you surprised that he only has six homers? Probably. Do you think he’ll get hits today against left-hander, Brad Mills? Probably. Will he get hits today against left-hander, Brad Mills? Yes. Should you take him today? Yes.

Outfield

Everyone at Coors Field and Jacoby Ellsbury. So you’ve fallen victim to me recommending Jacoby to you over and over again. #SorryNotSorry. Jacobes, as I call him, will finally come through for me tonight. He’s got the platoon advantage, (although it’s not much of an advantage as he’s been better against lefties), he’s facing Drew Hutchison and he’s in a hitters park, albeit every park in the AL East is essentially a hitters park. He will perform today because I put some sort of voodoo magic on him, and if you play him and he doesn’t, I’ll stop recommending him, I promise (voodoo magic take back my promise.)
