Daily Fantasy Baseball Strategy: June 28, 2015

Good morning folks. Welcome to another Sunday full of baseball. As is customary, below I’ve included a discussion on today’s full slate on DraftKings, with separate conversations on the pitching situation, the best teams to stack from, as well as a set of individual player rankings.

If you haven’t already signed up at DraftKings, make sure to do so using the link!

Forecast

After being hampered with rain all week long, it finally appears as if weather will not play a factor today! The only game with a considerable rain chance is the Cubs/Cardinals game later tonight.

Pitching Perspective

Today’s slate is absolutely flooded with potential pitching options. Chris Archer, Michael Pineda, Felix Hernandez, David Price, Madison Bumgarner and Zack Grienke all pitch today – and even Stephen Strasburg gets a turn at the Phillies.

All of these guys are studs, and none of them have particularly difficult matchups. My goal would be to try and fit two of these guys in all of your cash games, and mix and match them in your tournaments.

Believe it or not, all of them guys great strikeout potential and the ability to work deep in the games as they are their teams respective workhorses. Bumgarner will have the best environment to pitch in thanks to his spacious home ball park, but Grienke, Archer and Felix don’t lag far behind.

Pineda is the cheapest alternative, a measly $7,500, and he’ll be pitching in the worst ball park for pitching, but he also has the best matchup in terms of potential upside as the Astros lead the league, ending 25% of their at-bats by being sent back to the bench.

A pairing of Pineda and any other top option will leave you with quite a bit of salary, but none of their prices are so astronomical that you can’t fit any combination that you might see fit.

I see no reason to deviate from this list of guys today, and anyone one of them is in play.

Stack Options

With all of the incredible pitching matchups today, it leaves very little in the way of offense.

The Rogers Centre is home to the best matchup today as the Blue Jays get a crack at derailing Chi Chi Gonzalez. They currently have an implied runs total of around 5.3 runs and are big favorites today. It’s too early to speculate as to what the lineup will look like, but managers like to use Sunday as a way to give guys a day off. If for some reason Justin Smoak or Danny Valencia makes their way into the lineup, you’ll be able to get cheap exposure to a potential dynamite offense. Otherwise, the top 4 in this offense are downright scary and are all in play.

The Nationals lineup is shallow and not full of terrors, but it’s a way to find salary relief in a good ballpark and a good matchup today. Kevin Correia has been horrendous just about his entire career and he’ll be pitching to a Nats team getting a nice park boost. Danny Espinosa and Clint Robinson have been hitting near the top of this order and are a nice way to get some salary relief while not completely punting a matchup.

The Dodgers have killed right-handed pitching this year, and they get a nice matchup with rookie Jose Urena. Marlins park is a big place to play, but it leaves room for gap to gap offense. I imagine Mattingly will try to get as left-handed as possible, so queue up Andre Ethier as a potential salary relief option, but the rest of the Dodgers near the top of the order should be in play as well. It’s been too long without a Joc homer, right?

The Indians and Orioles game looks like a potential offensive outburst waiting to happen. A pair of wild right-handers in Trevor Bauer and Ubaldo Jimenez will take the mound looking to have a command on the zone. Both are capable of shutting down an offense if they can find the strike zone, but if they can’t, there will be loads of runners on base, and lots of runs today. This game has opened with a total of 8.5, and Vegas likes the Orioles bats a bit more. I’m on board with pouring out stacks of either team in tournaments, but I don’t think you need to go overboard with exposure in cash games.

The Milwaukee Brewers will get their turn at a soft tossing left-hander today. That normally means trouble for the opposing team. Aramis Ramirez, Jonathan Lucroy and Ryan Braun have all had their way with left-handed pitching in their careers and should have no trouble with Tommy Milone today. It would be nice to see four of the first five hitters include Lucroy, Ramirez, Gomez and Braun and if that is the case I really like this team as a tournament option and for cash game use today.

Last but not least, it is the Giants turn at Kyle Kendrick. Kendrick is atrocious, but he lucks out getting a bad ballpark for offense today. Regardless, the Giants will work as a sneaky tournament team, and guys near the top at shallow positions (Joe Panik) make for decent cash game fillers.
