Today is my first day writing at the Fix. I am excited to start a new journey and to provide you guys with winning daily fantasy basketball strategy for DraftKings. Today’s NBA daily fix features a couple players at each position that I highly recommend for today’s 11-game NBA slate. In addition to the two player breakdowns per position, I’ll add a few cheap risk options and tell you which ballers I am fading (not using) tonight. At the end I will list the top-5 players I’ll be using at each position in cash games tonight. Remember that this is written up in advance of any starting lineup or most inactive updates. Be sure to keep your eyes on Twitter and/or Rotoworld for updates that could change things in a big way. Good luck to you all and let’s get money tonight!
Point Guards:
Stephen Curry ($10,300) – When a player gets a matchup against Kyrie Irving you know they are going to have a great game. But when it’s a player like Steph Curry going at Irving, the opportunity for something historic comes into play. Add to the matchup that Steph is one of the most consistent fantasy performers in all the NBA and he becomes one heck of a fantasy play.
Jeff Teague ($8400) – Teague and the Atlanta Hawks have soared to an Eastern Conference leading 27-8. During the Hawks six game-winning streak, Teague has been averaging over 46 DK points per game, more than any other point guard over that span. Even with the mediocre matchup, Teague’s recent rise in points leaves him severely underpriced.
Cheap Risk Plays: Elfrid Payton ($5300) is one of those players with triple-double ability on any giving night. Payton gets a dream matchup taking on the Lakers and is at an extremely affordable price. Two cheap plays that are reliant upon questionable players are Jeremy Lin ($4800) if Ronnie Price sits and Marcus Smart ($4300) pending the status of Jameer Nelson. If either of these two players start they are great GPP plays.
PGs I’m Fading: John Wall, Jrue Holiday and Goran Dragic
Shooting Guards:
Joe Johnson ($6300) – Unlike the point guard position, shooting guard is a barren wasteland tonight. All of the top SGs are in rough matchups. Luckily, there is one play that jumps off the page and it’s Johnson. Johnson has been incredibly consistent, only scoring under 28 DK points once in his last seven games. Joe’s scoring consistency bodes well for him in what should be a high scoring affair against the lowly Philadelphia 76ers.
Wayne Ellington ($3700) – Due to the lack of good options at SG today, I think the best thing to do is punt the position. In a high scoring game with Ronnie Price, Nick Young, and Wesley Johnson all questionable tonight, Wayne Ellington becomes an outstanding price play. At near minimum, Ellington should be able to score at least 20 DK points.
Cheap Risk Plays: If you are not playing Wayne Ellington, Avery Bradley ($4200) looks to be in play due to the lack of quality guards on the Celtics roster. Bradley is in a mediocre matchup and is not a great offensive player, but he will play all the minutes he can handle and is at a nice price. Jodie Meeks ($4300) is also a nice punt play as he has been consistently knocking down threes and scoring around 20-25 fantasy points.
SGs I’m fading: Eric Bledsoe, Jimmy Butler and Bradley Beal
Small Forwards:
Draymond Green ($8200) – Green has been filling the stat sheet since game one of this 2014-2015 NBA season. He looks primed to continue his stat-sheet stuffing with a great matchup against the Lebron-less Cavaliers. As an added bonus, Draymond is almost a lock for a double-double as he has accrued one in four out of his last six games.
Andrew Wiggins ($6600) – I have been on the Wiggins train for some time now, and I am not going to hop off now. Wiggins has scored over 30 DK points in five straight games, including 20 NBA point performances in all five of those games. Wiggins should continue his hot streak against the Bucks 29th ranked defense versus small forwards. To be honest, Wiggins may be in 100% of my DraftKings lineups.
Cheap risk plays: Khris Middleton ($4800) is the top SF punt play of this slate. Khris has been playing consistent minutes over the last month and has been racking up steals, averaging more than three per game over his last five games. Middleton also draws a matchup against the 28th ranked T-Wolves defense. Solomon Hill ($4000) gets the necessary minutes to be a productive fantasy player, he just does not consistently produce. Solomon does not score many points in periphery categories, but is worth taking a flier on in a GPP based solely off of his scoring ability.
SFs I’m fading: Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay and Jeff Green
Power Forwards:
Anthony Davis ($11,000) – Even with the steep price Anthony Davis gets an outstanding matchup versus the 30th ranked Memphis defense. If there is any way you can fit AD in, I recommend doing so. He should rack up points, rebounds and, with the Pelicans home scorekeeper, TONS of blocks.
Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson ($10,400 and $6700) – Since LeBron went out with his injury, both Love and Thompson’s usage rates have gone through the roof. They have each been hitting value daily and tonight should be no different in what should be a close, high scoring game against Golden State. Note that Timofey Mozgov was labeled “doubtful” to play tonight by Cavs coach David Blatt.
Cheap Risk Plays: Robert Covington’s ($5600) price seems to have leveled out after a breakout month of December. Covington is good for 20+ fantasy points and always has the upside for a 50-fantasy point game with his high usage rate and fast paced offense. Kevin Garnett ($3500) is dirt-cheap and still has the ability to rebound consistently and score with his back to the basket. Garnett does not play the minutes he used to, capping his upside, but at this price he is at least worth a look.
PFs I’m Fading: Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol and Jared Sullinger
Centers:
DeMarcus Cousins ($10,500) – Tonight is one of those nights where you are going to have a tough choice deciding which elite studs to play. Cousins should be near the top of the list grabbing a matchup against the worst defense versus centers in the NBA. Fading Cousins will be risky as he will be highly owned and has the ability to score 30 points and upwards of 20 rebounds, especially in this matchup.
Rudy Gobert ($6100) – Gobert has hit value in nearly 10 straight games. The 7-footer has been getting the double-double bonus at a 50% clip and swatting balls away at the same pace as the NBA block leaders. He is still way underpriced and should score between 30-40 DK points.
Cheap Risk Plays: Jordan Hill ($5300) draws a nice matchup versus the Magic. Hill’s consistent stretch is in the past, but his upside is still there. Hill makes a great GPP only play at a reasonable price. The European sensation Jusuf Nurkic ($5600) has had a great fantasy stretch over the last five games. Just a week ago he was a must play at $3.5k, but even with the price jump Nurkic still presents value after the Mozgov trade. Nurkic is a great rebounding shot blocker and provides value at a very top heavy position.
Cs I’m Fading: Andre Drummond, Marc Gasol and Andrew Bogut
