The Daily Fix: Tim Hudson One-Hits The Brewers in Greinke's Return & Other Fantasy Baseball

Andre Either missed today's game with left elbow inflammation, he hurt it while panhandling because Frank McCourt cannot pay the bills.

Derek Jeter left today's game early with a sore hip, when you reach a certain age, these things happen.

Philip Hughes will be out another 6-8 weeks playing his own Where is Waldo-esque game?  First one to find his fastball gets Jeter's leftovers at the club.

From the incredible stat archives: Tim Lincecum struck out 12 today passing Christy Matthewson on the Giants all-time list for double digit strikeout games.  It was the 29th of his career, which seems like a relatively small number for a team that has been around as long as the Giants, but passing Christy Matthewson, he of the 373 wins, in anything, is incredible.

Top pitchers going on Thursday:  Josh Johnson (#3 ESPN Rankings), Roy Halladay (#4 ESPN Rankings), Shaun Marcum (#14 ESPN Rankings).  Plus, Brett Anderson and David Price will attempt to move up the fantasy ranks.  But, the most important pitcher tomorrow may just be AJ Burnett.  If Philip Hughes and his limp arm are going to miss two months, Burnett is going to need to step up.  He has not been dominant this year, but he is keeping the Yankees in games and ranks #42 in the ESPN Rankings.

Tim Hudson did his best to join Fancisco Liriano on the no-hit list.  Unfortunately, Rickie Weeks had other plans, still Hudson spun a one-hit shutout in the nightcap of a double-header.  That game also featured the long-awaited season debut of Zack Greinke…let's just say he was shaky.  He gave up 4 earned runs in 4 innings, but did strike out 6.

In what is becoming a weekly section, the hottest player over the last week…LANCE BERKMAN!  (.478, 3 HR, 11 RBI)  Proving once again, if you sell your soul to the devil, anything is possible.

The hot rumor is the availability of Jose Reyes. The Mets no longer have that Madoff money coming in so it is time to cut payroll.  Everyone has him going to the Giants, so who would fill in for the Mets?  They have a highly regarded shortstop prospect in Wilmer Flores, but he is in A-ball and is a couple years away.  If they call up anyone it will probably be Ruben Tejada.  There was some talk of him breaking with the big league club this year, but do not expect big things from him.  He is only batting .270 this year in AAA and only .213 last year in 78 games with the Mets.

On the rookie watch, Brandon Belt, formerly of the SF Giants, now of the Triple-A fame is crushing Triple-A pitching (.517, 2 HR, 10 RBI, .622 OBP).  It is entirely possible that he will never be anything more than a Four-A player, but should we be surprised when a 23-year old struggles at the big league level?  Not everyone can be Buster Posey, sometimes it takes players a little longer…see Alex Gordon.
