2016-17 FANTASY BASKETBALL: TOP 250+ DYNASTY RANKINGS
For the six of you who have asked about my rankings and where they’ve been, apologies for the delay! I changed countries and jobs, having moved from London back to New Zealand, but none of that matters as the NBA season is nearly upon us.
In less than 50 days a large chunk of grown ass humans will be knee deep in box-scores, grimacing at every poor choice made on and off the court, every clunked free throw, every missed lay-up (and consequent missed assist), while cheering more for a steal or block than they would from a free-throw line, under the legs, reverse double-pump dunk.
Such is fantasy basketball.
There’s no argument who’s better in reality or fantasy between say, Pau Gasol and Jahlil Okafor, but unlike a seasonal (i.e regular one and done) league, dynasty gives a nice little boost to the not-even-old-enough-to-buy-beer Okafor. Of course Old Man Gasol will continue to ball for the Spurs this year and likely another 1-2, but there will be a significant drop-off when he does lose his fantasy pau-wers, while Okafor should only improve on his solid rookie season.
My guy Zack wrote the fantasy gospel on rookies in this epic piece around a month ago, while last month I participated in an industry mock run by Z too (here).
Much like my previous ranking system, these are based on 8-cat roto and as always, if there’s a big disparity between a player’s roto or H2H ranking (yes, you DeAndre and Andre), or between 8 and 9-cat including turnovers (hello Emmanuel and Rajon), then there will be a comment about it.
So without further delay, here are my initial dynasty rankings.

uh….YES! Thank you thank you thank you! I lived by your rankings last year to help guide my first foray into fantasy basketball in a decade. Took over a winless team in Mid December and ended up winning the consolation bracket of our league, and am now a major contender this year. Hopefully we will get a few updates midseason.

Will definitely be updating it throughout the season, once a month most likely.
Might be doing an extra piece or two about stock watching for dynasty leagues too.

Good list with comments. PG13 is only a SF and PF this year in yahoo leagues. No more SG. however, giannis and harden have picked up a PG role as well.

Yes, im using your rankings (along with 4 others) for the basis of my draft. I then take that basis and sprinkle a thin layer of my own bias-ness on top for extra flavor. Shake twice and serve chilled.

Question: How much, if any, does Simmons injury affect these rankings? I have the 1st pick in a Saturday draft and plan on taking him. I feel I’ll compete regardless, and think his skill set is too good to pass up. But I do have Rubio on my team and locking down Dunn is appealing?

Thanks for the rankings. What is your favorite site to play on for dynasty basketball? I play dynasty football on myFFPC, but am having a hard time finding a site that offers NBA.

Is the second update coming soon? I know last year it came out right after Thanksgiving.
