2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Clayton Kershaw Stifles Tigers, Paul Goldschmidt Looms

Clayton Kershaw threw his eleventh career 10-strikeout game in a 4-0 Dodgers victory over the Detroit TIgers.

Paul Goldschmidt (Diamondbacks) leads the Southern League (AA) in home runs (22), RBI (61) and IBB (11). Additionally, Goldschmidt is batting .328 and sports a keen 53:55 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Not exactly breaking news anymore, but if you still haven’t found a replacement for Albert Pujols for the next four-to-six weeks while he recovers from a fractured left wrist, read Evan’s suggestions here: Pujols Injury Replacements.

In his last two starts, the Cardinals’ Shelby Miller (AA Springfield, Texas League) is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA, 17 strikeouts and just four walks. I would add him in my 12-team mixed if Yahoo! would let me.

The following six pitchers have pitched a minimum of 20 innings and posted a sub 1.00 ERA and WHIP over the last two weeks: Justin Verlander (100% owned), Cliff Lee (100%), Carlos Carrasco (25%), Tim Stauffer (41%), Bud Norris (53%) and Jeff Karstens (17%).

Adrian Gonzalez welcomed his former Padre teammates to Boston with some fireworks. The San Diego native went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three runs batted in, while raising his season batting average to .353.

First Half Bust Dan Uggla’s Triple Slash: .177/.243/.325. Gross, my eyes threw-up while I was typing that.

Texas Rangers’ outfielder, Craig Gentry, swiped three bags in an 8-3 win over the Astros on Monday. In 55 previous MLB games, over the last three seasons, Gentry stole a total of seven bases. We’re not exactly looking at the next Rickey Henderson here.

The Florida Marlins officially appointed Jack McKeon interim manager on Monday to fill in for recent quitter Edwin Rodriguez. McKeon didn’t waste time ruffling feathers in South Florida, as the 80-year-old benched slumping superstar Hanley Ramirez for Monday’s game.

Bud Selig and MLB rejected a potential television contract between the Los Angeles Dodgers and FOX. Dodgers’ owner, Frank McCourt was looking to use the $385 million upfront payment to keep the team afloat in 2011. MLB’s rejection will send Frank and Jamie McCourt back to court to fight some more. Will someone just let Mark Cuban buy the Dodgers already?!?!

Josh Beckett will miss his scheduled start on Tuesday with a stomach illness. Expect Alfredo Aceves to take the mound in Beckett’s absence.

Carlos Marmol (15), Jordan Walden (17), Mariano Rivera (18), Craig Kimbrel (20) and Huston Street (21) each earned saves last evening.
