2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Josh Hamilton Injures Shoulder & Dan Haren Dominates

Josh Hamilton’s injury problems continue. Tuesday Hamilton injured his shoulder trying to tag up on a fly ball about 50 feet from home plate. Hamilton is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. David Murphy is thought to get most of the playing time in Hamilton’s absence and Chris Davis is going to be call up from Triple A where he is off to a smoldering .429 Avg. 4 HR 11 RBI start.

Jeff Francis may be back to his 2007 form. In three starts this season Francis has gone 20.2 innings compiling a 2.61 ERA and 13 K’s against the Angels, White Sox, and Twins.

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for the Home Run Derby in Arizona this year, and by the look of things Tuesday, the players couldn’t either. Home runs were hit by Colby Rasmus, Lance Berkman, David Freese, Justin Upton, Chris Young and Juan Miranda.

Corey Patterson had a solid game as Rajai Davis’s replacement in the Toronto outfield. Patterson went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a stolen base.

Dan Haren is out to prove his poor numbers last season were a fluke and has been virtually unhittable this season. Last night Haren pitched a complete game, 1-hitter against the Indians. So far this season Haren has a 3-0 record with a 0.74 ERA and 21 K’s.

David Price and Tommy Hanson both had their first good starts of the season. Price went 7.2 giving up 2 ER and Hanson blanked the Marlins going 7 strong.

Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier may be the best 3-4 hitters in the game at the moment. Combined they are hitting .423. Too bad the rest of the Dodger offense stinks.

Sean Burnett of the Nationals picked up his 3rd save of the season. It was thought that the Nationals would use a closer by committee to close out ballgames but 2009 first round pick Drew Storen has yet to record a save.

Seattle Mariners rookie hurler Michael Pineda turned in another impressive performance, this time against the slugging Blue Jays. Pineda pitched 7.1 innings, only giving up 1 ER, while striking out 7. Also in this game Brandon League picked up his second save of the season while closer David Aardsma is still on the DL.

With Cody Ross nearing a return from the DL, it is going to be interesting to see what the Giants do. Brandon Belt has yet to produce and may be better off getting more seasoning in the minors while Aubrey Huff returns to first base.
