Seems the big news Friday night came when Hunter Pence, who is having a career year was pulled from the Astros game vs. the Brewers and started hugging his teammates. Pence had been traded to the Phillies for minor league prospects Jarred Cosart, Jonathon Singleton, Josh Zeid and a player to be named later. Pence’s fantasy value is sure to rise as more scoring opportunites and RBI chances should arise in a potent Phillies lineup.

SI’s Jon Heyman reports that Phillies OF Dominic Brown will be sent back down to the minors to get everyday playing time.

In what seemed to be an afterthought, Roy Halladay dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday night. Halladay pitched 7 dominant innings, giving up only 1 hit, 0 runs, and striking out 5 en route to this NL leading 13th victory.

On the other side of Friday nights huge deal, the Astros received 1B/OF prospect Jonathon Singleton and Jarred Cosart who were considered by many to be the #2 and #3 rated prospects in the Phillies farm system. Singleton who is only 19 yrs old moved from 1B to LF this season has ++power, but still needs a lot of polishing. Cosart who is 21, moves to the Astros farm system where he should become the clear cut #1 pitching prospect in their minor league system.

Justin Upton extended his hitting streak to 10 games Friday by going 1-5 with 2 Runs, a HR, and 1 RBI. Over his 10 game hitting streak, Upton is hitting a ridiculous .500 with 6 HR, 12 Runs, 16 RBI, and 2 steals.

Matt Kemp set the tempo for the Dodgers in their 9-5 win over the D-Backs. Kemp went 2-5 in the game including 1 R, a 3 run HR, and 5 RBI. Kemp has put together quite a remarkable year and has the chance to join the rare 40/40 club.

Emilio Bonafacio (26 game hit streak) and Dustin Pedroia (25 game hit streak) both went 0 for 4 Friday night during their respective games to end both of their streaks.

How fitting is it that Albert Pujols collects the 2,000th hit of his career against who better the the rival Chicago Cubs? That could be the highlight of the CUBS season.

The Seattle Mariners decided to try and show off Erik Bedard by giving him his 1st post DL start to try and increase his trade value. With scouts in attendance, Bedard put together a forgettable start going 1 1/3 innings and giving up a whopping 5 ER on only 3 hits while walking 4 batters.

Adding to this rollercoaster of a year, Francisco Liriano bounced back from a last rough outing vs. Detroit to pitch a solid 7 innings while giving up 2 ER, striking out 4 and picking up his 7th win of the year.

Gio Gonzalez gave up 4 ER in 5 and 1/3 innings Friday and struck out 5 while taking his 2nd straight loss. In his last two starts, Gonzalez has pitched 10 innings, giving up 10 ER, striking out 10 and walking 6. Despite this, he still has a stellar 2.84 ERA.

Braves SP Brandon Beachy was nearly unhittable Friday night pitching 7 1/3 innings while giving up only 3 Hits, 0 Runs, and striking out 6, earning him his 4th game of the year. He now sports a 4-2 record with a 3.27 ERA and has struck out a little over a batter per inning, with 91K in 85 IP.

Recently acquired OF Kosuke Fukudome started in RF and batted 6th for the Indians Friday. He went 0-4 with a K in his debut.

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that manager Joe Girardi confirmed Ivan Nova will get a start in the Yankees doubleheader on Saturday.

Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen went on the DL just 1 day after being released from hospital after suffering a cardiac arrythmia. He was pitching great before injury. He had 16 consecutive scoreless innings while striking out 26 and recording a save.

Injury Watch – WAS SP Stephen Strasburg is close to beginning a rehab assignment after another successful simulated game. BOS SS Jed Lowrie is set to begin his rehab assignment Monday at AAA Pawtucket. Depending on his progress at AAA I could see him back in the lineup next weekend.

Keep an eye on –  Upton's 10 game hit streak on the line vs. Billingsley (9-8,3.92), Cliff Lee (9-7, 3.05) vs. James McDonald (7-4, 3.95) matchup, and Madison Bumgarner (6-9, 3.56) looks to win his 4th straight decision vs. Mike Leake (8-6, 4.04) and the Reds.
