2011 Fantasy Baseball Rookie Report Week 17: Brandon Belt Gets Another Shot in San Francisco

SP- JOSH COLLMENTER (ARIZONA) Josh quietly is having an excellent rookie year for the D-Backs. He currently owns a 6-5 record with 2.74 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP in 92 innings pitched. He won't help you much in the strikeout category, but his unorthodox delivery seems to be able to keep hitters off balance. Collmenter is only owned in 15% of ESPN leagues and less than half of CBS leagues for some reason. If you need a two-start pitcher in your weekly head-to-head leagues he is definitely worth a pickup.

1B- BRANDON BELT (SAN FRANCISCO)Brandon struggled earlier this year for the Giants prompting his demotion back to Fresno. Now that he has been recalled he looks much more comfortable at the plate especially in July where he owns a .333 batting average in 12 AB. The Giants also are working him into the OF to get him more AB. The potential is there as well as the minor league numbers, and it will remain to be seen if he can make the transition to the majors. Belt is not fantasy relevant at this time.

2B- JASON KIPNIS (CLEVELAND) Jason got his first major league hit last night in the bottom of the ninth as the Indians defeated the Angels 3-2. Jason had gone hitless in his first five AB since his last Thursday call up. The Indians plan is to work him in the lineup slowly, so for now I would take a wait and see approach.

2B- DUSTIN ACKLEY (SEATTLE)Dustin has settled in nicely for the Mariners since his call up in June. In 114 AB he owns a .298/4/15 line with two SB. Dustin is still a bit inconsistent in weekly head-to-head leagues, which is to be expected from a rookie. There are plently of 2B options for you this year which is why he is only owned in 64% of ESPN leagues. The future is bright and I expect to see Ackley penciled in as the Mariner second sacker for the next 15 years.

OF- DESMOND JENNINGS (TAMPA BAY) I pimped Jennings in my preseason preview of the Rays and now we finally will get a chance to see what he can do. Since his call up a few days ago he has started three games and has gone off with three multi hit games, three stolen bases and a .545 batting average. With B.J. Upton on the trading block it looks certain than Desmond will get a chance to shine. If you need help in the OF grab him quick before the rest of your league finds out about him.

OF- JOSH REDDICK (BOSTON) Reddick continues to see playing time in right field over J.D. Drew for the Sox. In 33 games Josh owns a .366 batting average with four HR , 20 RBI and 22 runs scored. As long as he is going to get AB he is worth a look especially in this potent offense. Take a chance on him if you have the roster space.

BRYCE HARPER WATCH Harper continues to struggle at AA Harrisburg with a .228 BA in 17 games. He has yet to hit a home run and only has three RBI.
