Hitters to Start

Elliot Johnson | Tampa Bay Rays | (8%) – The proud son of Safford, Arizona has been playing well as of late and has a week-long road trip to help pad his stats.  While hitting on the road Johnson has an average of .356 (138 points higher than at home) and an OBP of .424.  His Road OPS is .983 (412 points higher than at home).  Johnson makes a great addition for those of you suffering from a lack of middle-infield depth.

Michael Saunders | Seattle Mariners | (61.5%) – June has been a hot month for Saunders.  He’s hitting .345 during the month and has hit half of his homeruns in the month.  This week he’ll be able to escape the never-ending outfield at Safeco Field.  Of the 7 homeruns that Saunders has hit on the year, only 1 has come at Safeco.  Likewise, his batting average has suffered as well.  While hitting at home Saunders has a .202 average.  On the road that average rises 110 points to .312.  Meanwhile, his OPS skyrockets 341 points from .578 to.919.

Hitters to Sit

Josh Willingham | Minnesota Twins | (100%) – Willingham has been having an amazing season even by his standards.  He has been somewhat of a paradox succeeding at Target Field and suffering on the road.  Willingham is hitting .237 on the road, 91 points lower than his home average.  His OPS is a marked 320 points lower as well.

Brian McCann | Atlanta Braves | (100%) – Brian McCann’s disappointing season is not going to get any better with his upcoming week on the road.  McCann’s average on the road is .227 with an OBP of .292 (34 points and 51 points lower each).  Only 2 of his 9 homeruns have come on the road.  McCann has a .250 batting average when hitting against the 3 starting Yankees pitchers that he’ll face this week.

Two-Start Pitchers to Start

Wade Miley | Arizona Diamondbacks | (80.4%) – Wade Miley might be the best pickup available right now and could arguably be the best waiver wire pick up of the season.  In his last 30 days the lefty has 4 quality starts and 3 wins to go along with a 2.25 ERA and even more stellar 0.86 WHIP.  This week Miley and the Diamondbacks take on the Mariners and Cubs both at home.  The Mariners are 20th in the league against left-handed pitchers in terms of batting average and are 27th in terms of OBP.  The Cubs are just as bad. They rank 27th in the league in batting average against lefties and are second-to-last in OBP against lefties.

Jonathan Sanchez | Kansas City Royals | (12.4%) – Starting Sanchez can be like playing Russian Roulette sometimes, the end result either makes or breaks you.  His first opponent of the week is the Houston Atros.  The Astros are 28th worst team when it comes to facing left-handed pitchers.  In 23 at-bats against Sanchez the Astros are hitting .217.  Sanchez’s next opponent is the all too familiar Cardinals lineup.  In 86 at-bats against Sanchez the Cardinals are hitting .186.

Two-Start Pitches to Sit

Jake Peavy | Chicago White Sox | (100%) – Peavy’s recent return to form might be marred this week by his home series against two teams that have given him previous troubles.  While pitching at home this season Peavy has an ERA of 4.05, but on the road that ERA is a mere 1.67.  Peavy first faces the Cubs.  The Cubs roster is hitting .274 with a .374 OBP.  Soriano owns Peavy.  In 26 at-bats he is hitting .346 with an OPS of 1.241.  The Brewers come to town to end the week.  In 103 career at-bats against Peavy the Brewers are hitting .282.

David Price | Tampa Bay Rays | (100%) – Price’s recent struggles might continue this week.  He makes both of his starts on the road this week.  First in Washington, then in Philadelphia.  On the road this season Price has an ERA that is nearly 1.5 points higher.  He’s also given up 4 of his 5 homeruns allowed on the road.
