2012 Fantasy Football, Week 10 Gold Mine: Regaining Trust In Carson Palmer

When the Detroit Lions score four touchdowns and Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson account for zero of them, you know something isn’t right in the fantasy realm.
Week nine didn’t deviate from the trend set from the previous eight weeks: that nothing should surprise us anymore. With that said, more injuries have piled up on our fantasy rosters, and it’s now more important than ever to find some gems on the waiver wire.
Whether they can help you for a couple weeks or the rest of the year, these five guys probably should be picked up in most fantasy leagues:
Carson Palmer | QB | Oakland Raiders (Available in 51% of leagues)
Palmer went off in week eight for four touchdowns and 414 yards. He also threw three picks, but it was easily his best statisticaly game of the year, and further proved he’s a fantasy asset. Instead of rolling with youth in Russell Wilson and Christian Ponder, start trusting the vet with solid weapons around him.
James Starks | RB | Green Bay Packers (88%)
Hold your excitement, as the Packers have their bye week in week 10, but also don’t forget about what is happening with the Green Bay rush offense. Starks led the team in carries in week nine, and didn’t look terrible doing so. There seems to be a bit of a changing of the guard, or at the very worst Starks is splitting reps with Alex Green. Start souring on Green and consider stashing Starks for the long haul.
Marcel Reese | RB | Oakland Raiders (98%)
With Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson both shelved with ankle injuries, Reese ripped off eight catches for 90+ yards and a touchdown in week nine. If he has a prominent role going forward, you better believe he’ll have fantasy value. The same goes for the explosive Taiwan Jones, although we’ll want to check reports and better gauge his value.
T.Y. Hilton | WR | Indianapolis Colts (94%)
Hilton erupted with his second big game of the year, catching six passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in week eight. He’ll have off weeks due to playing behind Reggie Wayne and Donnie Avery, but considering how much the Colts throw it, Hilton needs to be owned in the majority of leagues.
Brandon Myers | TE | Oakland Raiders (81%)
I’ve been talking about Myers all year, and while his value was hinged to PPR leagues, now we have to look at him from a global perspective. He still brought the drama as a PPR guy in week eight (eight catches), but also scored his first two touchdowns of the year. If he can start developing into a consistent red-zone threat, he’ll quickly be among the top tight ends in the league. He’s worth a pickup in standard leagues and should be owned everywhere that allows PPR numbers.
