2012 Fantasy Football, Week 11 Free Agent Fix: Cecil Shorts Should Be Owned More

Picture

Cecil Shorts

Maybe your starter is banged up.  Maybe they have a bad matchup.  Whatever the case, you’re looking for a quick Fix, and we’ve got you covered.  Every week, we’ll scan the matchups and provide you with two or three favorable options that are available in the majority of Fantasy Leagues.  This week, the Free Agent Fix offers up a defensive unit with a tantalizing Week 11 matchup and a WR that’s turning heads around the league.

Cincinnati Bengals Defense

Like we noted in this week’s waiver wire recommendations, fantasy owners should add and start the Bengals defense confidently in Week 11.  Cincinnati is coming off a strong performance in which they recorded four sacks and four takeaways, while holding the Super Bowl Champion Giants to 13 points.

As of Wednesday evening, the Bengals were still available in 53% of Yahoo leagues, but we expect that number to skyrocket thanks to their upcoming matchup with the hapless Chiefs.  Kansas City has scored 11.6 points per game in their last five, and has committed an almost unfathomable 30 turnovers on the year.  No other team in the league has more than 21.

Cecil Shorts, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars

The clear-cut WR1 in Jacksonville, Cecil Shorts has made himself a hot commodity in fantasy circles, and for good reason.  Over the last four weeks, Shorts’ 356 yards receiving ranks fourth in the NFL, behind only Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, and Vincent Jackson.  That’s good company for the sophomore out of Mount Union.  Too good for him to be owned in only 38% of Yahoo leagues.

If there’s a knock on Cecil Shorts from a fantasy standpoint, it’s that his four touchdowns are nothing to write home about.  The inexperience of Blaine Gabbert keeps Shorts from finding the end zone as much as we’d like, but we think he’ll rack up enough yardage to make him useful the rest of the way.  You could do much, much worse at WR3.
