2012 Fantasy Football, Week 13 Rookie Report: You Gotta Get Chris Givens

Injuries have ended the season for a couple rookies and provided opportunities for others.  Mohamed Sanu had just become fantasy relevant when he suffered a stress fracture in his foot during practice last week and was lost for the season. He had 11 catches and four scores in his final three games of the season for the Bengals.

Ryan Broyles is out for the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in Sunday's loss to the Colts. He was coming off a 100-yard game and had solidified himself as Detroit's top receiver behind Calvin Johnson.

If you picked one of those two up in recent weeks, another rookie is available as a replacement. With Danny Amendola out once again against San Francisco, Chris Givens had 11 catches for 92 yards. That’s following a 115-yard game with a touchdown the previous week against the Cardinals. Givens is a solid pickup and a legitimate fantasy starter if Amendola is out once again.

Philadelphia has a couple rookies filling in for injured players that went early in fantasy drafts.  LeSean McCoy has missed two straight games with a concussion and could be out for at least one more game.  Bryce Brown has run for 178 and 169 yards in place of McCoy with two touchdowns in each game. In just two weeks, he has become a top-five fantasy running back.

That could all change when McCoy comes back, so Brown owners are hoping that LeSean takes at least another week off. Brown will continue to have a big role in Philly's offense with McCoy back, but he won't get the 20-plus carries he got with McCoy out. McCoy and Brown will likely split carries, which makes it tough to trust either player until we see how the workload is divided up.  Regardless of what happens the rest of the way, Brown gave his owners a huge boost just as the fantasy playoffs were beginning.

Nick Foles has been named the starting quarterback for Philly the rest of the season. The rookie from Arizona threw for 251 yards and a touchdown against Dallas, but is not worth a pick up. Foles is throwing the ball a lot as the Eagles try to come from behind, but has exceeded 220 passing yards only once in four starts and has thrown only two touchdown passes. With Brown, and possibly McCoy back soon, Philly will rely heavily on the run the rest of the way.

Rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley has replaced injured Kevin Kolb in Arizona, but he is nowhere near ready for fantasy football. In three games, he has a completion percentage below 50, no touchdown passes, and has thrown for less than 100 yards twice with four interceptions in the other game.

One other injury note regarding rookies is the expected return of Alshon Jeffery, who has missed most of the past two months due to injury. He’s not fantasy relevant because he was averaging just about three catches and 30 yards per game for Chicago with two touchdowns in six games his only real fantasy value.
