2012 Fantasy Football, Week 15 Monday Night Football Preview: Titans vs. Jets

Picture

Unless otherwise noted, the following lineup and roster advice assumes a standard 10- or 12-team league with roster spots as 1 QB/2 RB/2 WR/1 RB/WR/1 TE. If I don’t mention a player it means I feel he isn’t worthy of starting in any league except very deep leagues. For advice regarding deeper leagues feel free to ask me on Twitter @44AMiller.

The last Monday Night Football game of the year is a real doozy. That is if you like bad quarterback play, bad defenses and inconsistent fantasy players. The Titans host the Jets in Week 15.

Speaking of inconsistency, the Jets have allowed less than 10 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks five times, including twice in the last two weeks. But they’ve also given up multiple touchdown passes in six games. Jake Locker was a deep sleeper coming into the year, but injuries really put a damper on those hopes. Since returning five weeks ago he’s thrown at least a touchdown in every game, but he’s also turned the ball over nine times in his past three games. If you’re this far along in the playoffs already, chances are you’ve got a stud at QB and aren’t even worrying about Locker. But if you’re rostering him it’s better to keep him on your bench this week, as the Jets’ D has been pretty good lately and Locker’s turnovers are a killer.

However, Chris Johnson – wait, what? Mark Sanchez? Oh you’re right. Sanchez could be a good play this week. Hahaha I can’t keep a straight face. You should pick up Sanchez just for the comedic value. Anyways. Johnson has a real good matchup against the fourth-worst rush defense and ninth-worst fantasy defense against running backs. Johnson’s coming off two straight poor performances, but against such a soft D he’s a good start.

The Titans are even worse than the Jets against running backs fantasy-wise, allowing 19.8 fantasy points a game to opposing RBs. Shonn Greene, another inconsistent thorn in your side, makes for a good flex play this week. The Titans have given up at least 88 rushing yards and one touchdown in their past three games to opposing RBs. Bilal Powell has four touchdowns in his last four games, as well as at least 11 carries in each of those games. Against a soft defense Powell is an OK deep-league flex play or speculative play in TD-heavy leagues.

Kenny Britt’s had a score or 100 yards in each of his last three games, all of which have been started by Locker. Nate Washington, Tennessee’s leading receiver, hasn’t had the same connection with Locker that Britt has. Kendall Wright has at least five catches in each of the last three games. Locker seems to favor Britt and Wright over Washington, so I’d rank them in that order. Britt is a “safe” play as a WR3, Wright’s more of a PPR deep-league flex play. Washington, I wouldn’t start.

There really are no Jets’ receiving options that I’d recommend starting this week. Jeremy Kerley has the best chance of having a big game; he has 12 plays of 20 or more yards and his 14 yards per reception number is the best on the Jets. But he’s no more than a WR4/flex play.
