2012 Fantasy Football, Week 3 Free Agent Fix: Sleeper Wide Receivers

Every week, we’ll scan the matchups and provide you with two or three favorable options that are available in the majority of Fantasy Leagues. This week, the Free Agent Fix offers you a pair of sleeper WRs:
Stephen Hill, WR, New York Jets
After his zero-catch performance in Pittsburgh, people have jumped off the Stephen Hill bandwagon as quickly as they jumped on following his two-touchdown effort in Week One. Like many fringe WRs, Hill’s performance is tied directly to the success of an up-and-down QB. This weekend, Mark Sanchez and the Jets travel to Miami to take on a Dolphin defense that has allowed more passing yards than any team in the AFC. While Jets OC Tony Sparano would love to keep the ball on the ground, Miami’s run defense has been among the league’s best early on. We think the result will be Sanchez dropping back to pass early and often. Considering Miami’s shoddy secondary play, we think you’re more likely to see the Sanchez that torched the Bills in Week One than the Sanchez who went 6-22 for 58 yards after the Jets’ first drive in Pittsburgh last week.
A successful Mark Sanchez will mean a successful Hill, especially if potential target-thief Dustin Keller misses his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury. Hill is an underrated WR3 play for Week Three, and is owned in only 44% of Yahoo leagues.
Greg Little, WR, Cleveland Browns
Little is a physically imposing target whose short NFL career has been plagued by shoddy quarterback play. He has also had trouble with dropped passes, but we think his raw physical abilities will shine through if the Browns could just get some consistency from Brandon Weeden. Frankly we don’t have all that much faith in Weeden – at least not at this phase in his development – but we do like this Sunday’s matchup with a Buffalo secondary that was shredded by Mark Sanchez in the Bills’ opener and allowed Matt Cassel to eclipse the 300-yard mark in week two. Buffalo ranks 23rd in the league in both passing yards allowed (538) and opposing passer rating (99.1), and has already allowed five touchdowns through the air.
If you’re in a pinch, we think Little, who hauled in five passes for 57 yards and a score last week, makes for a decent WR3 play this weekend. As of Wednesday night, Little was available in 52% of Yahoo leagues.
