2012 Fantasy Football, Week 6 Freeroll and Sit/Start for your Weekly Leagues
What is a freeroll? A freeroll is a weekly fantasy game that awards cash prizes to the league’s top finishers, but is free to enter. Yes, free. Prizes are awarded to the top 150 finishers!
All you have to do is go to Draft Day, sign up for a free account, and draft your team while staying under the $100,000 budget.
It’s that easy.
Just so you know what you’re up against, below is my roster with some sit/start advice. Come and challenge me in week six!
Also, if you sign up, send me a tweet @TheFantasyFix so I know who my competition is.
Reminder, this is a six points per passing touchdown and a points-per-reception format.
Best of luck!
Matt Ryan (QB | Atlanta Falcons | $21,800) In a format like DraftDay’s, that award six points per passing touchdown, Matt Ryan has been the second highest point getter though the first five weeks. He’s tallied 13 touchdowns and over 1,500 yards in the air and added 52 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown thus far. This week, Ryan faces the Oakland Raiders — the second most generous defense to fantasy quarterbacks — and I expect him to exploit that weakness. I know it may be tough exhausting a fifth of your salary on one player, but realistically, he could win you your daily league, so start Ryan and find value elsewhere.
Trent Richardson (RB | Cleveland Browns | $14,200) Richardson is coming into his own, just like many thought he would. But most importantly, he’s becoming more relevant in the pass game than initially anticipated. Since we’re in a points-per-reception format with our friends from Draft Day, I’m confident Richardson will post a stellar performance who has given up the 10th most points to opposing team’s runners thus far.
Jamaal Charles (RB | Kansas City Chiefs | $15,400) The Bucs defense isn’t giving up a ton of fantasy points to runners, but with trouble at the quarterback position, look for the Chiefs to stick with their horse. Charles didn’t get into the endzone last week, but he touched the ball 33 times and totaled 161 yards from scrimmage. He is my second ranked ball carrier for this week, so I’m riding the hot hand (errr…feet?) here.
Roddy White (WR | Atlanta Falcons | $15,500) I was torn between Roddy and Julio Jones on this one, but stuck true to my week six wide receiver rankings and went with the elder statesmen. As I noted above with Matt Ryan, the Raiders have been very kind to opposing team’s pass catchers — giving up the league’s tenth worst 24.15 fantasy points per game.
Andrew Hawkins (WR | Cincinnati Bengals | $8,650) Hawkins is seeing a lot of targets from Andy Dalton, 12 in week five that matched A.J. Green’s 12. I guess that’s going to happen when opposing team’s top defensive backs are swarming Green, one of the league’s top three receivers. This is too good a value to pass up, more receptions will follow and the touchdowns will come. Hopefully that time is this week.
Joel Dreesen (TE | Denver Broncos | $6,200) At the beginning of the season, many thought Jacob Tamme would be Peyton’s go-to guy in the red zone, but that hasn’t exactly panned out yet. Tamme has the overwhelming lead in targets — 31 to Dreesen’s 15 — but, three of Dreesen’s 11 catches have been for scores, compared to just one touchdown for Tamme. Yes, I would love to get a Gronkowski/Gonzalez type for this weekend, but this is another value play for me that allows me to spend more in other areas. Still, look for Dreesen to get into the endzone again on Monday Night Football in San Diego.
Vick Ballard (RB/Flex | Indianapolis Colts | $4,000) The Jets have been the sixth most generous to opposing team’s ball carriers through the first five weeks. And with Donald Brown sidelined, I’m trying to catch lightning in a bottle here with Ballard, who should see the majority of the rushing duties for the Colts.
Greg Zuerlein (K | St. Louis Rams | $7,000) Greg the Leg is a perfect 14-for-14 on field goal attempts this year, nine of which have come outside of 40 yards. Enough said.
Miami (D/ST | Miami Dolphins | $6,600) The Dolphins come in this week as the fifth best option for fantasy defenses. They surrender the least amount of rushing yards per game, so the Rams’ Steven Jackson and Daryl Richardson are likely to have a rough week. Additionally, the Rams’ enter week six with the league’s 30th ranked passing offense and without their number one wide receiver, Danny Amendola. At $6,600, the Dolphins are a bargain buy for daily weekly leagues against the Rams in week six.
