2012 Fantasy Football, Week 8 Gold Mine: Make Rashad Jennings Your Top Priority

Picture

Rashad Jennings

Week seven kept the crazy trend going in fantasy football. Chris Johnson ran for more yards than anyone else, Darren McFadden couldn’t do a thing, Maurice Jones-Drew got hurt, and A.J. Green caught just one pass (for a touchdown, mind you).

Those are just a few things that made fantasy owners’ heads spins this past week, and while they might grind your gears, that and more could lead to a bountiful trip to your league’s waiver wire.

Here are my five favorite pickups in fantasy football heading into week eight, even if you have to pluck them from the confines of a psych ward:

Jake Locker | QB | Tennessee Titans (Available in 82% of leagues)

I know he’s still hurt (shoulder) and the Titans might hold him out again in week eight, but if you’re hurting at QB this guy is a steal right now. Tennessee has said countless times that he’ll be back soon and he’ll remain the starter, so it’s time to stash him now.

Rashad Jennings | RB | Jacksonville Jaguars (78%)

Obviously Jennings is one of the hottest waiver wire adds right now. With Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) out and with no clear timetable for a return, Jennings figures to hold a prominent role in the Jaguars’ offense over the next couple of weeks, if not longer. His 28 total touches in week seven tell you all you need to know.

LaRod Stephens-Howling | RB | Arizona Cardinals (84%)

Montario Hardesty deserves some hype with Trent Richardson ailing, but I can’t look past the Cardinals apparent #1 back, who popped off for 100+ rushing yards against a solid Vikings defense in week seven. Not only that, but he had a mean 24 total touches, and figures to be AZ’s top runner going forward.

Chris Givens | WR | St. Louis Rams (94%)

Givens is getting closer and closer to truly breaking out for the Rams. With at least 50 receiving yards in his past four games and 70+ in his past two, he’s clearly displaying his talents as a natural big-play receiver. The minute Sam Bradford confides in him and gives him more opportunities (targets), he could blow up.

Dustin Keller | TE | New York Jets (74%)

I think Keller is fully healthy now and needs to be owned. I’m sure his seven receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown in week seven were nice to see, but he gives Mark Sanchez his reliable guy over the middle back, and I think he’ll be heavily targeted going forward.
