Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, July 17, 2012: Injuries to Joey Votto, Jose Bautista and David Ortiz

Picture

After going through a rough stretch Lance Lynn resumed his dominant early season ways in last night's game against the Brewers.  Lynn pitched 7.0 innings of one run ball and rung up 10, although he only came away with a no decision in the Cards win.

Miguel Montero and Mark Reynolds had almost identical nights for their respective teams.  Montero went 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI, plus a walk.  Meanwhile Reynolds went 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI, as usual he doesn't see the point in taking walks.

Raul Ibanez continues to surprise this season, as he mashed a grand slam for the Yankees to help them overcome the Blue Jays last night.  In a game that also saw Joey Bats (Jose Bautista) leave with a wrist injury, the severity is unknown.

Don't look now but Adam Lind is scorching hot since coming back up for the Blue Jays.  The slugger has always been a streaky player and well worth owning when hitting the ball well.  Over the past 14 days he's hitting .400 on the nose and has 3 homers and 11 RBI to show for it.

Speaking of injuries both David Ortiz and Joey Votto didn't fare too well yesterday either.  Ortiz injured his achilles while running the bases but should only be out a couple of games, while Votto will undergo minor surgery on his meniscus and should only be out 3-4 weeks.

John Axford blew his sixth save of the season in the Brewers 3-2 loss to the Cardinals and after the game manager Ron Roenicke discussed the closer situation and said management would be muling it over.  Don't be surprised to see Frankie Rodriguez pick up the next save opportunity.

Ryan Howard hit his first home run of the season for the Phillies as they took down the Dodgers 3-2.  Howard is a notorious second half hitter and could be in line for a tremendous stretch.  If you want to buy in now would be the time.

Kevin Youkilis returned to Fenway and received a great welcome from the Red Sox fans.  But Adrian Gonzalez homered for just the seventh time and the Red Sox spoiled the return by beating the White Sox 5-1.  Youkilis has been hitting well of late and it won't come as a surprise if he maintains this throughout the season with the extra motivation from the trade.

The handshakes of the night were recorded by: Chris Perez (26), J.J. Putz (17), Jose Valverde (17), Rafael Soriano (23), Mike Dunn (1), Brett Myers (19), and Jonathan Papelbon (20).

Pitching match ups I’m most looking forward to tonight; Trevor Bauer (ARI) Vs. Johnny Cueto (CIN), and the battle of the veterans, Roy Oswalt (TEX) Vs. Bartolo Colon (OAK).

Matchup of the Day

This is more of a potential streamer since it's clear not enough of you fantasy owners have taken notice of the Travis Wood hot streak of late.  Go out and spot start him tonight with the way he's been pitching and the way his opponent the Marlins have been struggling to put runs on the board of late.

Link of the Day:

Going to have to roll with two because well the people at RotoGraphs just do such great work I can’t choose just one.

Is Ben Sheets back?
How many comebacks is this for Sheets now, seven, eight?

What’s wrong with John Axford? Stay ahead of the curve and pick up F-Rod while you have the chance.
