Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Peavy pitches complete game, Upton hits 1st homer of the season

Picture

Riddle me this.  When is the last time Jake Peavy pitched a complete game?  You'd have to go back to almost a year ago, way back on May 18th last season.  Peavy pitched a gem as the White Sox took down the A's.  He gave up just three hits and finished with five K's in his complete game Win.

Big Time Timmy Jim finally got back in the win column as the Giants beat the Mets 6-1 in the first round of a double header this afternoon.  Timmy pitched just five innings but allowed just one earned run and struck out eight.  Unfortunately he gave up a combined nine Hits/Walks.  Baby steps for now.

In the second game of the double header Pablo Sandoval knocked in his third home run of the season while Madison Bumgarner had his best start of the young season.  Bumgarner pitched seven innings, allowed just one earned run with a whip under 1.00 and struck out four.

Derek Jeter continued his torrid stretch for the Yankees as they took down the Rangers 7-4.  Jeter finished the night 4-of-5 pushing his average all the way up to .411 on the season.

Speaking of beleaguered veterans still holding their own Paul Konerko hit his third home run of the season and still doesn't look like he has an end in sight.  Finishing just 1-of-5 on the night he is still hitting .350 to start the year.

Cody Ross homered twice for the Red Sox to help propel them to their first win after a five game losing streak.

In the Diamondbacks 9-5 defeat of the Phillies Justin Upton finally hit his first home run of the season.  If he's back and fully healthy he should be hitting plenty more for his fantasy owners very soon.

Speaking of no shows at the plate so far this year Ryan Braun also had one of his better games of the young season.  Braun went 3-4 with a home run to raise his average to .288.

The handshakes of the night were finished off by;

Mariano Rivera(4), Francisco Cordero(2), Alfredo Aceves(3) and John Axford(3).

Pitching match ups I’m looking forward to tonight;

Matt Cain(SF) vs. Mat Latos(CIN), Josh Johnson(MIA) vs. Johan Santana(NYM), and of course the battle of the imports Hiroki Kuroda(NYY) vs. Yu Darvish(TEX)
