The Daily Fix: Alex Rodriguez’s Grand Slam Carries Yankees
Alex Rodriguez has never been considered all that clutch, unless it comes to eating popcorn, but he knows how to focus when the bases are loaded. His 22nd career grand slam during the Yankees 15-7 victory moved him into 2nd all-time behind Lou Gehrig’s 23. Interestingly, he passed fellow PED abuser Manny Ramirez.
I had my fun while I could early in the season, but the talent on the Red Sox is starting to take hold. At the time of writing they were on their way to their 7th win in 8 games. It was only a matter of time. Both the hitting and pitching has come together; they have not given up more than 3 runs in any of the last 8 games.
Michael Young has responded to all the trade rumors to have a very strong start to the season, including a 13-game hitting streak. Even more interesting, he is the only player in the top-4 of American league hitting streaks this year that is not a Kansas City Royal. Wilson Betemit, has a pleasantly surprising 12-game streak. But, two other streaks are more noteworthy. First, Jeff Francoeur, prematurely dubbed the "Natural," has been living up to that nickname. The top American League hitting streak this season belongs to former top-overall prospect Alex Gordon. Call me a softy, but I love a redemption story and there is nothing better than seeing a former SI cover-boy and top prospect live up to their billing.
Interesting American League West information, Neftali Feliz was placed on the 15-day DL. The Angles top two starters, Dan Haren and Jaren Weaver are 9-1 with a 1.34 ERA. The A's are second to last in the American League in scoring, but have the top ERA in Baseball. For A's fans, it is 2010 all over again. The question is, how long can the A's starters keep up this pace on their own? It's tough when the offense is averaging 3.3 runs per game. Billy, next time you have a Matt Holiday, Carlos Gonzalez or Andre Either, PLEASE hold onto them.
If you are Matt Kemp, would you rather be batting over .400 or still dating Rihanna? I mean, he's no Ted Williams, I think I'd rather have Rihanna.
Welcome back Justin Morneau, welcome back and thank you for sticking around Grady Sizemore.
The Padres are truly missing Adrian Gonzalez: 29th in runs, 30th in batting average, 26th in OBP, and 30th in slugging.
