The Daily Fix: Jose Bautista Goes for the Seven-Crown & Other Fantasy Baseball News

Picture

Jose Bautista keeps on keeping on. He hit his 9th yama-lama-ding-dong last night against the Yankees. Last year Bautista biggest weak spot was hitting for average, but so far he is hitting .372. Bautista is leading the AL in homers, average, runs, walks, OBP, SLG & OPS. Forget the Triple-Crown, how about a Seven-Crown. Repeat of 2010??? Well it maybe a little early…

Robinson Cano joined in the fun and hit 2 home runs, giving him 8 so far, trailing only Bautista.

On this day in 1946, Indians’ great Bob Feller chucked his second career no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Feller whiffed 11 Yankees in this historical effort.

Derek Lowe was arrested Thursday night for driving under the influence. Lowe was racing down Peachtree Blvd. in Atlanta in his 2011 Porsche Panamera. Lowe is not expected to miss his start on Sunday vs. St. Louis, and will likely instead be looking for protection in a DUI case from the relevent lawyers that handle cases on this scale. He will have to discuss his options and what he may have to do to settle this case and what his punishment/s will be. A law firm such as the Simon Law Group may be contacted in this instance, however, it will be up to Lowe to decide.

Tim Lincecum continues to struggle to get wins, this time being out-dueled by Jason Marquis. Marquis was on fire last night pitching a complete game 5-hitter against the Giants. Marquis is now 3-0 while Lincecum is 2-3.

Ryan Howard did his best impression of Ben Zobrist’s performance a day earlier. The Philly Big Boy hit 2 home runs for 6 RBIs to take the lead in the majors with 27 RBI total. Howard’s homers helped secure a win for the rookie Vance Worley (6 IP, 2 H, 0 R) who is filling in for Joe Blanton in his absence. Take a look at Worley in deeper leagues as he should be able to get at least another start or two before Blanton’s return.

The Indians keep on friggin winning and are now tied with the Phillies for the best record (17-8) in the league. Wowza!

Carlos Santana two home runs in the past two games have been his only bright spot as of late. Santana is hitting .195 for the season. It could be a good time to make a trade offer with the small signs of power this week.

David Price got knocked around like a rag doll by the Angels, giving up 5 runs and 12 hits in 4.1 IP. Price is 3-3 on the year.

Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning. Braun’s was his league-leading 10th of the season.

With the backing of Mattingly, Broxton was reassured his role as the closer and got the save last night. He gave up 3 hits and run though.

Oakland pitchers continue to dominate everyone in their path. Trevor Cahill held the Rangers to 1 run last night. The A’s 2.59 ERA leads the league.

Jon Rauch (5), Leo Nunez (8), Brandon League (6), Jordan Walden (4), Joakim Soria (6), Joel Hanrahan (8), Carlos Marmol (6), Brian Fuentes (7) and Jonathan Broxton (6) each earned saves last night.

Pitching match-ups I will be watching today: Kyle Drabek (TOR) @ AJ Burnett (NYY), Josh Johnson (FLA) @ Edinson Volquez (CIN) and Matt Garza (CHC) @ Ian Kennedy (ARI)
