The Daily Fix: Liriano's So-So No-Hitter, Greinke Returns & Other Fantasy Baseball

Picture

Probably this biggest news of the day is that Zack Greinke is officially scheduled to make his National League debut today for the Brewers. It’s always tricky deciding whether to start a pitcher in his first start coming off the DL and Greinke has been OK is his two rehab starts but had trouble not giving up the long ball.

Finally some good news for the Twins. Francisco Liriano threw the first no-hitter of the 2011 season. The negative here is that Liriano walked six and only struck out two. Liriano has struggled this season and hopefully this gets him back on track.

Andre Ethier’s hitting streak is now at 29.

Jon Rauch blew his first save of the season Tuesday, failing to collect an out against the Rays.

Wade Davis continues to have a strong season for the Rays (2.77 ERA 1.28 WHIP) but the low strikeout numbers (17 K through 6 starts) is why his ownership percentage is hovering around 65% in ESPN leagues.

Adam Dunn and Matt Holliday have both had appendectomies and since the procedures the two players success levels vary dramatically. Dunn is hitting .157 with three home runs and 12 RBI. Holliday is hitting .409 with four home runs and 20 RBI.

Brad Penny out dueled C.C. Sabathia going six innings giving up one run (unearned) while walking two and striking out one. Inconsistency has always troubled Penny and a good start against the Yankees isn’t reason to pick him up.

Jimmy Rollins has as many RBI and he does stolen bases (6).

Eduardo Sánchez got the save for the Cardinals. It is his second of the season and it seems as though he’s the go to guy for Tony LaRussa.

Nelson Cruz continues to struggle. His season average is down to .219 and last night he was replaced by Mitch Moreland.

Mark Trumbo hit his 5th home run of the season filling in for the injured Kendry Morales.

Evan Longoria was 1-4 coming off the DL.

Adrian Gonzalez has been driving in runs all season, but the power explosion that people thought was going to come at Fenway simply hasn’t yet (1 HR at Fenway). It’s possible that the offseason shoulder surgery may be the culprit.

Mat Latos went deep which isn’t really relevant but it’s always fun when a pitcher hits one out.

Brett Wallace was a prospect that the Cardinals, A’s and Blue Jays passed on. The 24-year old Astros first baseman is rewarding Astros so far this season hitting .383 with two home runs and 10 RBI.

Jonathan Broxton really may be on his last legs, botching another performance last night. It’s hard to give up on a player with so much potential, but it may be time to bail.
