Rotoinfo.com provides excellent updates as lineups roll in. I’ve got some fun choices below – read along and enjoy.

C.C. Sabathia | P | Yankees | $11,000 – Career record against the Orioles – 17-4, 3.30 ERA over 184 IP with 140 strikeouts. Plus, he faces off against Freddy Garcia on the mound for the Orioles.

Shelby Miller | P | Cardinals | $8,000 – Miller has been lights out all year long and gets an anemic Padres’ offense. His salary has yet to catch up with his performance.

I would also consider Johnny Cueto (just off the DL for the Reds against the Mets), Jeremy Guthrie, Julio Teheran as other second starters.

Buster Posey | C | Giants | $3,700 – Somehow Posey is extremely cheap and he gets a left-hander in Zach Duke for the Nationals. Posey’s career OPS versus lefties? 1.062. Start with impunity!

Travis Hafner | 1B | Yankees | $4,100– Hafner seems to have found the fountain of youth in New York. His career numbers against O’s starter Freddy Garcia is quite solid – 15 for 33 with four HRs and an OPS of 1.379.

David Adams | 2B | Yankees | $2,100 – Can’t beat getting a starter for this cheap. And he gets Freddy Garcia…I’ve left $900 just in case we need to go elsewhere because Adams doesn’t start. There are a lot of cheap options at second base (Derek Dietrich, Alexi Casilla, Steve Lombardozzi).

Matt Carpenter | 3B | Cardinals | $3,500 – Carpenter bats lead-off for the Cardinals. The Cardinals like to score runs. With Jason Marquis on the mound, there should be runs to garner.

Jean Segura | SS | Brewers | $3,800 – I’m contractually obligated to select Segura with a salary so low. He’s the hottest player in fantasy baseball.

Brett Gardner | OF | Yankees | $4,700 – This is more about loading up on hitters against Freddy Garcia. Gardner also gets the lead-off spot.

Shin-Soo Choo | OF | Reds | $4,600 – Hey, another lead-off hitter…I’m starting to see a trend here. Choo is a solid performer each day. He’s a solid bet to score a few points no matter who he faces.

Choo is out of the lineup today so we’ll go with…

David Murphy | OF | Rangers | $4,100 – Murphy has been slotted into the number two spot in the potent Rangers’ lineup with Ian Kinsler heading to the DL. It’s a nice, warm, inviting place and he’s starting to pick up the pace a bit. I’d also consider Ichiro in this spot has he sports a career .978 OPS against Garcia.

Dayan Viciedo | OF | White Sox | $3,600 – Viciedo’s salary hasn’t caught up to his performance. From CBS, “Viciedo is hitting .444 with two home runs, six RBI and as many walks (five) as strikeouts since coming off the disabled list last Friday.”

If you are looking for stacking options at the Yankees against the Orioles (as you’ve seen above). Ichiro Suzuki is another option if he’s in the lineup. He has a fantastic career record against Garcia. The Giants gets Zach Duke so they are another stacking option.

The First Pitch:

I’m going to change it up a bit this week to more of a notes setup. Why? Because I’m bored with the way I’ve been doing it so I’ll make a change. If you like it or you don’t, drop me a note in the comments section.

The “Junichi Tazawa as closer” era seems to have come to a close without Tazawa picking up a save. He was in line for the save opportunity today until the Red Sox scored two runs in the eighth against the Twins. Andrew Bailey is due back on Monday and should head straight back to the closer’s role. John Lackey continues to pitch effectively for the Sox. It looks like time to take him seriously in all leagues. Pedro Hernandez may have pitched his way out of the Twins rotation. Look for Samuel Deduno (the hero of the WBC) to head up from AAA soon to take his spot.

In more closer news, Steve Cishek was pulled in the middle of the ninth inning in favor of Mike Dunn. Cishek put runners on and Dunn came in to face a lefty. Dunn did his job and picked up the save. I see Dunn as a match up specialist so if the Marlins decide to swap out Cishek, I think A.J. Ramos is the play. Ricky Nolasco struck out 11 over eight innings for the win.

And in still more closer news, Reds’ closer Aroldis Chapman blew a save against the Phillies by giving up home runs to Erik Kratz and Freddy Galvis. Not exactly Gehrig and Ruth. It was Chapman’s second blown save in his last two appearances. He’s given up runs in three of his last six outings. It’s time to be a bit concerned about Chapman. It’s not clear where they would go if Chapman needs a break. Jonathan Broxton has the contract and some pedigree, but I like J.J. Hoover a bit more than Broxton. We’ll see where this goes. Ryan Howard is also scheduled to miss Monday’s game with a knee injury. Not a lot is known at this point, but Howard certainly isn’t a bastion of health.

Justin Masterson looks like the real deal. Eleven strikeouts over seven innings Kenley Jansen took the loss, Brandon League blew the save and Paco Rodriguez appeared and hit the only batter he faced. We may be back to square one with the Dodgers’ bullpen. I still think Jansen leads the Dodgers in saves for the rest of the season.

Dan Haren was lit up by the San Diego Padres giving up seven earned runs over five innings and 97 pitches. He’s just not a very good pitcher right now. He’s got an ERA of 5.50 and an xFIP of 4.53 meaning he’s likely been a bit unlucky. He continues to give up home runs in bunches. This isn’t what the Nationals expected when they foolishly gave him $13M for the season. And the Nationals are struggling with their rotation as Haren is ineffective, Ross Detwiler is hurt so they have to start Zach Duke and they have no depth at AAA (Yunesky Maya, Ross Ohlendorf, Ryan Perry and Chris Young aren’t exciting).

Matt Moore moved to 8-0 as the Rays toppled the Orioles in Baltimore. The O’s are in a bit of a swoon right now, but should be able to right the ship.

Miguel Cabrera would hit 60 home runs a year if he got to play in Texas for 81 games a year.
